Reflection On Volunteering At Feed My Starving Children

My group decided on volunteering at Feed My Starving Children. However, at first, we decided to volunteer at Big Brother/Big Sister because my group enjoyed spending time with kids. I myself am a “Big Sister”, I’ve been a mentor at my old elementary school for 2 years(Hinckley-Big Rock Elementary School). My high school has a mentor program for the seniors, they choose seniors who show that they are a leader in their own way enough to help lead younger kids on their own path. So I really wanted to be involved in this program. My group had a hard time trying to reach this organization because we would call them but they wouldn't call us back. Then I decided to go the location and see if we could get a spot. When I went it seen]med that they weren't open. I messaged my …show more content…
Because with our first choice (Big Brother/Sister) after I shared my mentoring experience my group really enjoyed and it engaged them more to really volunteer at Big Brother/Sister.

Yes, I do consider myself a Servant LEader. However not so much this year as I have graduated from High school. I would've considered myself more of a servant leader last year because I really was involved with my teachers, clubs, school events, and town events. I would help teachers if they needed help with little things, Id helps other clubs with organization and event planning and fundraising. Id volunteer to help with concessions at school events such as soccer games and basketball games. Involving town events id help fundraise, organize and plan our annual fireworks show.
This project really helped get back into what I used to love which was helping others that couldn't. It also really gave me a different platform for serving not just to those who I knew but to those I didn't know. I really felt good that I was making a change in the world even if it was small and not broadcasted on the news but those kids will appreciate what we do for them and that's all

It is such an empowering feeling knowing even though my part was little it was still apart of a big plan. It is also so rewarding when seeing how truly grateful the organization is for each and every volunteer. The best benefit to me is meeting all of the extraordinary men and women who have been affected by breast cancer. Thousands of people die each year from this disease and being able to help make a difference for finding the cure is one of the best feelings. Their stories are of course heartbreaking but also admirable because they don’t give up.…

Because of my experience as a Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC) I realized not only do I love helping people but I want to center my life around helping children. I've been involved in many different types of service activities but the one that has impacted me the most was being a YVC I volunteer over the summers supervising and mentoring children from second to eighth grade. Over each summer I've seen myself and the children grow, both helping each other see the world through others eyes. I still visit the kids I've had in the past years and seeing them go off into high school shocks and excites me because I know how mature they grow over the years. Through the summer with the eighth graders the volunteers try to help them mature to…

I started building my foundation for community service back in fifth grade with Girl Scouts. My troop volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House, read to kindergartners, and organized food at the food pantry. I continued these acts all the way up through eighth grade. In high school, I joined Key Club, where I sold flowers for powder puff, volunteered at my elementary school’s Trunk or Treat, and helped with the book and coat drive. Outside of school, I continued serving in my church through events like VBS.…

In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…
