On September 7, 1996, Shakur was leaving a boxing match only to find himself fatally caught up in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas. Hurried to a nearby hospital, Shakur was in a serious state of haemorrhaging; his mother Afeni Shakur pleaded the doctor to stop operating after blood loss became too severe. Six days later, he was declared dead after being diagnosed with respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest, at only 25 years-old.
The following day, unbounded by the forces of reverent, his cremations were released into the vast ocean where many gather and say their farewells.
