Iowa Water Center Reflection

Iowa Water Center is a prestigious organization that strives to create a better environment for Iowa State University and its community. Iowa Water center donates money for research, plans events, and so much more to help raise awareness for our local waterway systems. Every year, the Iowa Water Center hosts the Iowa Water Center Conference here at Iowa State University. Its purpose is to inform people about the sustainability and importance of our water. I created a poster to show and advertise the Iowa Water Center Conference to help the community strive to preserve our water systems.

My first decision was to decided if I wanted to create a poster or brochure. For the purposes of my audience I choose a poster. I feel that people, especially students, usually do not have time to sit and read information about an event. They are more likely to glance and read the most important details that stand out to them. In my case, for my poster, the two largest fonts were the title and “free food, drinks, and prizes.” The title is a large font to raise awareness to the event and I know many people are more likely to be involved if there is something free. Which also targets my audience because college students are interested in free things. Although I did not use any actual pictures on my poster I feel like the lines helped the flow. I also included a water faucet because I believe it relates well with the Iowa Water Center. In general, the entire text flows in the “z” direction because that is the natural way how humans read, so I wanted to make sure my poster followed that flow. The text is also shades of black to help contrast against the blue background. The background is blue because the color blue represent water and that is the main purpose of the Iowa Water Center.

Overall, the purpose of the poster is created to fit my audience's needs. Every detail, from the line direction to the color, was carefully thought out and precise. Without the knowledge of a target audience or purpose, any poster would be lost with its information. The audience and purpose helps set up the design to create the most awareness and

I chose to write about Frank Lloyd Wright’s house, Falling Water. At my funeral, I want people to know that I chose this piece of art because it was how I wanted to live my life. Sturdy and firm but lost in a forest of life and nature. The architecture of the house represents the different changes in my life and how the light that shines through the house, tells a story about no matter which way I turned or how bad it was, there was always a way to see through it. The water that rushes underneath represents how I had tranquility with my life as well as almost disconnecting to the outside world.…

There is a stigma associated with attending Brookdale. It did not make sense to me, and I did not let it stop me. In my senior year of high school, I blatantly told everyone I was going to Brookdale and faced opposition. No one understood. I was in the top ten percent of my class.…

Regarding my first project, “Battle Royale Book Cover”, my goal was to briefly summarize the book in subject matter and tone; I wanted people who saw the cover to be curious enough to want to know the relevance of the imagery, but not to gather all the details of the story because of the imagery. With my second submission, “Run Lola Run Movie Poster”, I wanted to visually explain the excitement and complexity of the movie; I did this by adding many elements to the poster (lot of words, multiple elements to the main visual image, many shades of red), in addition, I designed it so the elements, although many, would work together. Proceeding on to the “Shakespeare Project Poster”, I wanted to reflect the play, a collection of scenes of about 20…

Elias Tefera Mr. Ward English 112 18 April 2016 Visual Argument: Uncle Sam versus Lord Kitchener The Uncle Sam’s “I want you for U.S. Army” and Lord Kitchener’s “Your country needs you” propagandas both have some common goals as well as differences. While these two announcements were for two different countries, they both had the ultimate goal and purpose of recruiting soldiers for their countries in need of assistance during World War I. To say one is better than the other could potentially be caused due to a bias judgment of the viewer’s nationality and viewpoints. These propagandas differ in that they display different individuals in their propaganda, use of color schemes, as well as targeting individuals from different countries.…

To some citizens, politics is a fun and intriguing way to get involved in the decision making for this country. However, many others see voting as a dull obligation for society. I have learned that the generation that is proven to care less about who is running this nation is millennials. A study was done by my classmates and I that revealed more than 60% of millennials are uninformed about the 2016 presidential election. Since the most powerful man/woman in the world will be elected this November, I created a public service announcement (PSA) with a goal to get millennials informed about the 2016 presidential candidates by following them on Twitter.…

In today’s society, most people enjoy going out to see a good movie or two. Before we do so we watch trailers and look at movie posters to see what these movies will be about. Movie posters are a good way to take a quick glance to capture the basis of a film before we pay to see it. Over the years we have progressively gotten better at capturing a movie through a single poster. In 1974, a very famous movie in the genre of drama and romance was release to the public.…
