Reflection On The Yellow Wallpaper

The woman from The Yellow Wallpaper lived in a time where a revolutionary thoughts and reforms about women's right. Not to mention, the husband is the superior of the house. The woman has a nervous depression, so John, her husband, prescribes her a cure which leads her to creepiness and freedom. The treatment is isolation in a locked room with no physical activities, so like prison and even prison is better because there are physical activities and times to leave the cells. Not to mention, the woman likes to write but her husband forbids her from that activity. Trapping a person in a room would make him/her become insane. The woman loses her mind, but in a way she is freed mentally and confined physically because she has nothing to do except staring at a yellow wallpaper in her cell. The woman's tragedy begins when she starts following the pattern of the yellow wallpaper and thinking there is a woman trapped behind the pattern. In The Yellow Wallpaper I see how the woman has to obey her husband despite her desires. The story shows how women are controlled and kept in prison of marriage. Furthermore, I feel the story suggests that there is no happiness for women in marriage. In my country, women have to obey their husbands and follow what they say to them without questioning. Married women cannot express their opinions freely, and they cannot win an argument against their husbands. Not to mention, husbands make their own decisions on behalf of their wives. Marriage makes women trap in a circle where they cannot across without a permission of their husbands. I'm surprised that the story of the yellow wallpaper was written two centuries ago, and it reflects exactly my country. Women should be treated in white and cured by their instincts which allow women to grow and have personal
