This course brought various issues of diversity to my mind. It has forced me to realize how diversity works in the world of education. I had the privilege to observe a wonderful educator named Mr. Newbold. When I entered into the classroom for the first day of observations, I was welcomed with a warm “Hello!” Upon meeting Mr. Newbold I had no idea what to expect, I was there to basically observe his teaching and classroom methods and to see the relationship he had truly build with his students. Some might say well it’s a science class how can diversity/ culture be implemented into the class. Well when I was observing Mr. Newbold class they were on a lesson that discussed DNA, Traits, and Genes, this unit brought up many different topic to discuss in the classroom. “To aid students in their developmental is the ability to appreciate the differences, it is important to model positive behaviors and to use strategies that articulate learning style concepts.” (Campbell, Campbell & Dickinson, 2004, p. 167) However, it’s not easy trying to incorporate diversity into the classroom curriculum because teachers are provided a subject based curriculum that they are required to
