Reflection On The Patrick Henry Varsity Football Team

In 2015, the Patrick Henry varsity football team worked for a dismal record of 5-5, which at Patrick Henry results in a failure. Historically known as a football powerhouse, Patrick Henry teams before us won eight straight Northwest Ohio Athletic League championships from 2002 through 2009. Now as juniors, we knew that we could and had to do better for our senior year. Although we play the same game of football, a year can make multiple differences and teach life lessons. The biggest adjustment a team can make in one year involves changing a head coach, and that is exactly what the team did. Joe Kirkendall coached the football team in 2014-2015. Our motivation in 2015 revolved around individual achievement and winning for ourselves. This year in 2016, we play less for ourselves and more for our teammates. Also, the team plays for the senior class before us because their senior year was wasted with an unacceptable effort. Bringing the Patrick Henry community back together and filling the stands full of supporters again continues to drive us. Even though the season has yet to conclude with more postseason games ahead, I have grown in a lot of different ways and experienced many life lessons first-hand over the last year. Whether working out in the summer to improve my skills as a football player or studying for a test, hard work always pays off in the end of anything you work hard for. Sometimes in life teenagers have to grow up and accept whatever life throws at them quicker than what they would like to.
The players of the Patrick Henry football program knew that we had to begin the transition back to the winning dynasty of PH football through the 2000’s. Through both hard work in the weightroom and in studying opponents and ourselves, we have started this year undefeated at 12-0, won the NWOAL league championship, and hosted a playoff game at Big Red

While playing under one of the many I had, he took us to the move When the Game Stands Tall. In sixth grade, I wanted nothing more than to make Lusher’s middle school flag football team. I had dreamed of being on the team from the very first day I heard about it; all of my friends were trying out with me; and we had grand plans for a year of non-contact, semi-athletic exertion ahead of us. Having been anxiously awaiting the lunch period when the team roster would be revealed, I was thusly dismayed, disappointed, and disheartened when my name was not one of the eighteen posted on the PE office door. My mother, in all her eternal wisdom, saw a way out of the pit of despair I had sunk into: Lusher was starting an Academic Games team, and she thought I might enjoy playing. I was more than somewhat hesitant; she was more than somewhat…
