Reflection On The NC Promise Tuition Symposium

On November 7 I was a speaker at the NC Promise Tuition Symposium held at the University Center. I helped setup the Symposium by arriving at five pm and passed out flyers to students entering and leaving the University Center. After the flyers were passed out the event began with Alexandra Cole who was the introducer. Senator Cole explained what the NC Promise Tuition Plan contained and gave the procedures on how students can get a question answered either at the event or online. After Senator Cole introduced the event she then introduced Haley Gardener who was the speaker of the major effects of the Tuition plan at the academic and financial level. All questions were answered and common questions and their answers were posted on the SGA Facebook page. My part at the event required me to speak to multiple sources around the university and required research from the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. I spoke to Dr. Canida and we shared pointers and information on how the presentation should be carried out and what type of information was needed to discuss the importance of diversity at the university. When I finished collecting the data and format of the presentation I had to practice my speech and learn the information I had to say. The information I had to learn was important as the speech was not data based, but was based on the personal belief I had on diversity and the diversity facts at the university. Overall I believe the Symposium was a success as the information about the NC Promise Tuition Plan was given out and a good number of students attended the event. As well, I believe that the reputation of the SGA Senate grew as the Senators are becoming more active to positively represent the
