The motto of SUNY Purchase, “Think Wide Open”, is the perfect way to describe how I
feel going into college. My interpretation of the motto is that I should be more open minded
when approaching new topics or ideas. I do not wish to be a type of person that has a prejudiced
mindset and draws conclusions at first sight. Instead, I desire new experiences and exposing
myself to new interests. As I grew up, my judgement would often be influenced from everyone’s
stereotypical views. I usually questioned my decisions as to whether or not engage with new
people and participate in activities or events. It was not until high school where I developed out
of this state of mind and recognized the value of forming my own opinions. My experience
