At its core, our marching band is one big family. Even if we have our ups and downs, in the end, we are able to come together and appreciate one another. We are able to push each other, give constructive criticism, and care for others through this community we’ve developed over the years. These aspects cannot be more pertinent as a senior due to the level of leadership we needed to bring to the table. Marching band has taught me not only to work hard, but to also be a better person. These life skills will help me develop even more through my years at Mercyhurst University. I want to continue to play my flute and piccolo into college because the Spartan Marching Band has given me the drive to do so.
Mercyhurst has always had a pep band, but this year is the first year that they’ve had a traditional marching band. Because Mercyhurst University has just started, I want to be able to bring what I learned in our marching band and implement it here at college.
To conclude, the Spartan Marching Band has helped me break out of my shell through the past four years. Without it, I do not believe that I would be as confident about myself as I am today. It has shaped me as a person, and I hope that my personal experiences with the band will continue to make me have a positive outlook on
