Reflection On The Montour Spartan Marching Band

Good Essays
The Montour Spartan Marching Band has been with me through my four years of high school. The band was my first step into freshmen year, and I would not be the same person today without my experiences in marching band. To me, marching band means coming together as a family, and that will continue to hold true through my future experiences in Mercyhurst’s Marching Band.
At its core, our marching band is one big family. Even if we have our ups and downs, in the end, we are able to come together and appreciate one another. We are able to push each other, give constructive criticism, and care for others through this community we’ve developed over the years. Marching band has taught me not only to work hard, but to also be a better person. These life skills will help me develop even more through my years at Mercyhurst University. I want to continue to play my flute and piccolo into college because the Spartan Marching Band has given me the drive to do so.
Mercyhurst has always had a pep band, but this year is the first year that they’ve had a traditional marching band. Because Mercyhurst University has just started, I want to be able to bring what I learned in our marching band and implement it here at college.
To conclude, the Spartan Marching Band has helped me break out of my shell through the past four years. Without it, I do not believe that I would be as confident about myself as I am today. It has shaped me as a person, and I hope that my personal experiences with the band will continue to make me have a positive outlook on

As a senior captain, I was given the opportunity to visit the local elementary and middle schools throughout the year to coach and mentor girls that wanted to play basketball in high school. It occurred to me that I had been in their shoes not too long before. I remembered how much I admired the varsity team when I was a younger and how I would have done anything to be just like them. At this point, I realized that though it was still important to me to win games and advance towards the goal of a state title, I had been given the chance to be an example for these girls just as the previous varsity team had been for me; and that is what really…
