English 1111 Lessons Learned Congratulations on your decision to further your education at Wabash Valley College and welcome to English 1111! This class is challenging but also very rewarding while you hone your writing skills. If you apply yourself and the lessons in the book, you will most definitely be a better writer at the end. I would like to provide you with some helpful hints on how to attack this course, specifically the lessons learned during my time in the course. I found that if you read the weekly chapters and give yourself ample time for completing essays, you should not have any issue with passing the course. I hope you are up for the challenge and do not forget to order “The Writing Process” by John M. Lannon sooner, rather than later. I found that the book was very helpful in explaining the different writing forms and strategies. I have never attended college and this was my very first class so I was very nervous and didn’t know what to expect. But, as I began reading the book I soon thought that I would do fairly well considering how easily the materiel was presented. Read the assigned chapters ahead of time! I found myself rushing at times to get a couple of them finished and those grades seemed to suffer a little bit. I also recommend post your rough drafts prior to the dates they are due. This allowed the other students additional time to complete their “peer edits’ which resulted in better papers. I found that asking specific questions to the other students about your essays was also helpful. Some of the topics and papers were more challenging than others and I noticed that other students sometimes understood the chapters better than I.
