K-3 Tutor Scenario: I would verbally acknowledge that I have made the mistake and did not follow the proper procedure. If there is an appropriate possibility find a replacement in the short few hours before the trip and I am aware of this possibility when Michael raises his concern, I would mention it. However, as this is most likely not the case and would look irresponsible on my part, my actual next step would be to ask Michael for the approval of the absence (Since it’s a commitment that concerns the safety of students on an overnight trip). Depending on my prior conversations with the Internal Coach and the classroom teachers, I would present Michael with a plan for how to best compensate for the delay. However, there might not have been a possibility for me to even plan a compensation for the delay; or, since my literacy program is only K-3 and I am helping the 5th grade team, Michael might be less willing to approve the absence. In those cases, I would politely ask both him and program manager of 5th grade team how to best proceed and do that.
