Another said he qualified for accommodations, but had not requested the notification paperwork for the Winter Semester. He wanted to wait to see if he would needed to use it. After discussing the formats of my tests and assignments, both students said they felt that they could successfully complete my course without help from test services (F. Capese and F. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires that a continuum of placement options be available to meet the needs of students with disabilities. This means that there are multiple options to consider when including Isabel in the general education classroom. To start off I believe that there first needs to be a relationship and guidelines formed between the student, teacher, special education teacher, parents, and principle and staff of the school. Without being prepared and having an established relationship the student will not thrive within the school and not exceed educationally. When it comes to instructional method and involving Isabel within the classroom I believe that she should not be coloring pictures while the…

Self Reflection With regards to my participation and contributions I made throughout this topic I believe I should receive 74% or a high credit. This grade reflects that I responded to each and every question as part of the FLO activities, occasionally provided other references beyond the required readings and posted some questions for consideration and read many of the responses by other students (except those that were posted later on a Wednesday). I especially enjoyed Fiona Isdale’s reflections and her experience working within the disability sector, Kendall Silsbury’s advocacy for Indigenous Australians and Andrew Wooden’s analytical thoughts and insights. When summarising documents I made sure that I wrote using my own words and reflected…

Education is important and extremely valued within American society, although students with disabilities have struggled with getting the opportunity to have the same fair, appropriate education as their nondisabled peers. In 1975, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act (EHA) was enacted and public schools began to provide accommodations for students with disabilities. The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) replaced the EHA in 1990, and it was designed to place more focus on the individual’s needs. Disabled students have benefitted greatly from IDEA since it was enacted 26 years ago. IDEA has immensely changed the way students with disabilities receive an education.…

During these nine weeks, I had a really interesting time being a Student Service Learner at my school. At times, working with the students in the class was pretty fun and a lot like working with your own friends. However, there were multiple times where it was completely difficult to work with them. Even though I had a short experience with the class for only half of the semester, I have learned what it takes to be an excellent, and successful, SSL.…
