Reflective Essay: The Walk To The Field

On what seemed like a typical weeknight during my freshman year of high school, my friends and I walked to football practice. The walk to the field was always nerve-wracking because we spent our time wondering what kind of physical exhaustion we would be subjected to during the next few hours. After reaching the field, we carried out our routine stretches. However once the team had finished, our coach made us form a single line. Each person stood facing the back of the person in front of him. The coach gave the first person in the line a large dummy bag and instructed him to hand the bag to the person behind him. He explained that the bag had to reach the last person in line and once the last person received the bag, he had to run up to the line and start the passing over again. The drill wouldn’t be finished until every person ran the bag back up to the front of the line. As I listened to my coach, I didn’t understand the point of the drill. I didn’t see how transporting a bag would help make us better players. Still we ran the drill and when we were finished our coach sat us down and explained his reasoning behind making us do the drill. It was meant to improve our teamwork. I was a senator for my residence hall and this required me to attend weekly Residential Hall Association meetings as well as weekly hall council meetings. I also helped my hall council put on programs in my residence hall. During my time as senator, I helped come up with ideas for programs and worked closely with my e-board. My experiences taught me that every person has a unique way of thinking and accomplishing tasks. In order to have a successful team, it is necessary to find a way to blend everybody together so that efficiency is at its highest and conflict is at its lowest. We had a successful
