Team Simulation Reflection

Improved Essays
The team simulation exercise allowed the team to practice our collaboration skills and emotional intelligence. During the past two days, I have had the opportunity to learn a great deal about myself as a leader and team member and observe others’ behaviors and how they influence the team’s dynamic and effectiveness. As a result, there were many lessons gained that helped to guide the learning environment.
To begin, I exhibited what is categorized as self-limiting behavior during the first day due to my lack of comfort with the simulation exercise and my lack of familiarity with marketing. As each round occurred, I became more comfortable with the material and understood the group's end goal more clearly. This comfort elicited my quantitative, facilitator and encourager skills to emerge. I leveraged it to provide

I utilized the data provided on the dashboard to identify marketing and pricing trends to provide a bigger picture to my team. However, without the full context from other divisions it was difficult to know how to translate the analysis. Despite my attempts at a thorough data review, there were several times where lack of information prevented me from being fully immersed in the conversations. I did my best to stay engaged by asking clarifying questions and relying on the expertise and strength of my team members to conduct due diligence. This often resulted in our team showing mild signs of the Abilene Paradox by going along with the findings or course of action from a member.
My level of engagement was easier to maintain since our team abided by the optimal group size of five to six people. The small team size and simulation exercise allowed me to practice both my listening skills and patience as I participated and watched how others approach their responses. The intimate nature of the team reflected positively in other team member’s

Individual Response: Personal Reflection: Team work is important for any type of project to succeed. So therefore my principle is to try to connect all the team members with each other. That though is a bit problematic, as not all team members are cooperating as strongly as they should. So what I did is notifying as many members of my team of the importance of cooperating as a team, to solve the problems that face us as a team. Also one of the problems of rounding up team members, that not all of them provide contact information, therefore contacting them isn’t possible.…

The first week or so was pretty lonely sitting in a classroom waiting for people to show up but finally they did! I definitely started out by getting to know them and being friendly. I had great students in my tutoring sessions they were all a lot of fun and happy to be there. I have taken the classes that I was tutoring so it was nice to help the other students get familiar with the classroom. I personally know can be overwhelming to walk in to a big classroom full of unfamiliar bones, models, and equipment but I enjoyed helping them get comfortable and learning from the classroom.…

I always felt I was at a disadvantage in this field because I did not know the educational theories and theorists, which pushed me to improve my understanding by enrolling in this degree program. The knowledge I gained the last two years and its application to working as an instructional designer are great, but I also value the confidence it has instilled in me. I also learned valuable multidisciplinary skills in the IDT program. Each class taught me essential skills for discrete aspects of instructional design, but also critical skills I can use beyond work projects. For example, I learned to be a consumer of research in 590 and 611.…

My strengths lie more in my competencies and this is because for the past year I have had a tutoring job. Being a tutor allows me to continually practice being a good leader. Tutoring has helped me identify and develop my strengths. As a tutor, one leads others through the process of studying and learning material which is oftentimes hard for the tutees to grasp and be comfortable with. Large groups of tutees energize me.…

I realized that I actually have the skills to be leader, just by helping others out. I also realized that I have enough kindness and confidence to show the students with appropriate behavior and manners when in the classroom. To me, the most meaningful experience during my time as an SSL was most likely when a student that I was working with for a couple weeks became a good friend to me and got everything right on a test. It was the his first A so far, so he was very surprised. I felt that taking time and trying to help him review for that test really did the trick for him.…

My experience in the passport project has shaped my understanding of learning and creativity by helping me to have insight into myself and my learning, to learn to overcome challenges, to set goals to reach certain targets, to think ahead to the future, to research efficiently and to find people and artists that inspire me. All of these things have greatly benefited me over the term and a bit that we completed our project because of the impacts that it has on me in my everyday life. I am finding that I am becoming more organised and willing to learn on my own accord rather than by being told exactly what to do by a teacher because of this project because I feel like I have been trusted to work well and responsibly. I enjoy this style of learning immensely because it gives me the freedom to work in a way that suites me whilst helping to shape my understanding of learning and creativity. Over the duration of our project, I have gradually gained more of an insight into myself and my learning.…

For self-awareness, I recognized that I was a bit confused and not clear how I could manage the task. The feedback from the observer mentions that I continued to smile during the group work.…

I believe that the introduction of personal stories added another level of familiarity with the group members. As a facilitator using personal stories allowed for my group members to get to know me and the way that I think, as well as provided a safe environment to share their personal stories as well. This ultimately allowed for us to get to know one another and build our group dynamics, whilst simultaneously critically reflecting and learning about the course material. All of the facilitation questions that I asked received fulfilling answers, as my peers answered the questions from a social work perspective, as well as using their own experiences with group facilitation. The group dynamics were incredibly interesting to me as the first facilitator, our similarities as well as…

When the program was implemented, I believe it went well. This is because the clients expressed that they enjoyed the program and when they were asked what they learned, they understood everything that was taught and explained to them. When I analysed the program at a later date however, I did notice that there were some aspects that could have been modified in all aspects of the program. This includes how the Engagement activity, skill building activity, cool down and action plan were implemented and how they can be modified. To begin with, I believe that the engagement activity was well thought out because they were very responsive and eventually seemed to enjoy it.…
