There are several points that justify the Indiana Academy as an appropriate educational opportunity for me, the first being convenience of location. The Academy is only a short distance from my home and attending school on the Ball State University campus will aid me in the memorization of its layout. I plan to apply there and it will be a tremendous advantage for me to know the location of its buildings prior to attendance. Secondly, I believe that I will be inclined toward more social interaction at the Academy. The class sizes described will offer me a substantially greater chance of participation than my current high school does, I will not be intimidated by an overly large student body, and when placed in more intimate groups I often flourish. Additionally, attending a school to which I have been accepted based on academic potential will endow me with a sense of community that I cannot find in my current school. Thirdly, if I am accepted, it will push me to pour even more of myself into my studies. The ranking of the Academy and its high standards will motivate me to push myself to uphold its reputation and prove that I have earned my place there. Fourthly, attendance promises to be a healthy choice for the mental/emotional well being of any student. The lesser amount of class meetings per week will lighten my stress load, stand as an excellent motivation to avoid absences, and will grant me much more time at home to assist my mother with the house and tend to my independent projects, which are calming and relaxing to engage in. The intimacy of a small classroom will cause me less anxiety, and attending a new school will give me an opportunity to make new friends and expand my social circle. And I anticipate a student body whose maturity level is higher than that of my current peers. I would adore an educational setting in which the behavior of those around me is not comparable to elementary school students

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

In 2006, I began my journey at The Valley School as a first grade student. Moving over from my previous school, which I had attended from the time I was three until I was six years old, was fairly smooth. I had friends who made the switch with me and, being the social butterfly I was, making new friends was a breeze. In the first few years as a student, I saw Valley move into three buildings.…

After touring Georgia College, I became excited for the future ahead of me. I can visualize myself draped in a dark robe, standing on a stage to receive my diploma, thinking nostalgically of the memories I hold with GCSU. I think of the clubs I involved myself in such as environmental initiatives and community service clubs. I notice my peers who helped me to succeed, regardless of how overwhelmed I sometimes felt, who encouraged me and reminded me of my strengths. I reflect on the semester I spent abroad to embrace the Spanish culture and language.…

On a sweltering summer day in the City of Atlanta or the “ATL” as it is affectionately known today, I visited my best friend while he visited his father for the summer. That day I remember vividly because as soon as we stepped outside of the airport to take the “MARTA” train, I began to sweat profusely. Anyone that has been to Atlanta during the summer knows it is incredibly humid there. A week earlier I had seen my friend, and we planned out what we were going to do that week I visited. I knew I wanted to visit Spellman College, Morehouse College, Clark Atlanta University, and Morris Brown College, but before I could visit the Atlanta University Center or the “AUC” as it is called to the locals, I felt compelled to visit the grave site of one of the most influential human being to walk this earth.…
