I began to reflect on this situation shortly after the patient was transferred, attempting to process the many things that had happened that evening and why they had occurred. One of the first things I struggled to comprehend was how such a young person with his whole life ahead of him could become so corrupted to consume something such as this. I then began to reflect on something we learned in school termed the Social Determinants of Health. In one article, Adler, Glymour & Fielding (2016) found in their article, “Social determinants, such as income and education, have wide-ranging effects across the life course. Higher income is related to better health outcomes, including lower prevalence of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and depression
