She put down her breakfast and welcomed us to her classroom. I took a seat next to the computer toward the front of the classroom while Kathy seated across from me. The teacher utilized the time we spent with her kids to finish her breakfast. Kathy started off by introducing herself. She told the kids she was a nurse from The Public Health Department, then she introduced me. She told them we were here today to talk to them about washing their hands. Kathy asked the children if they knew when they should wash their hands. Most of the kids raised their hands. One child said, “after I use the restroom.” Another said, “after we play outside.” “Yes, very good”. Exclaimed Kathy. “Now, does anyone know why we wash our hands”? A few kids raised their hands this time. One little girl said, “So we don’t spread germs.” A little boy said, “So we won’t get sick”. “Very good Answers” Said Kathy. Then she turned to me. The kids sat quietly throughout the duration of the clip. Satisfied with myself, I considered my performance to be great so far. I rested while waiting for the show to conclude. “Alright, does anyone have any questions”? Now, having children of my own, I should have known there is no telling what kind of questions I may receive. Consequently, the first question grabbed me by surprise. The first child I beckoned was a little boy sitting at the back, “How do germs make babies?” Uncertain of what to say; Finally, thinking back from science class I replied, “I don’t think they have babies, I believe they just multiply”. He appeared satisfied with my response. Ready to conclude, I stood up and thanked the class for allowing me to talk to them; moreover, I thanked them for being a delightful group of children. The teacher congregated up her students then proceeded to return them back to their classroom.
