There’s a Chinese Proverb that says, “Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get back up again.” I really wish I heard that quote when I thought I was a failure, but really was just being lazy. In Carol Dweck’s article “Brainology” a study is conducted on seventh grade students and their mindsets. Their mindsets were measured and studied for two years. Nothing more than something that scares me will make me do whatever I need to get done, or in this case change me for the better. Fear is basically just an active imagination that comes to a person when creating the worst possible scenario. Imagining gruesome scenarios is kind of like a comfort because then you know what to expect. People don’t normally find themselves being happy when they are getting kidnapped. The idea of fear is a very common idea, we think it’s a bad thing. This is a bad mind set, because fear is what keeps us alive but it also keeps us from doing things we want to do. So we are brave by pushing fear in the back of our mind, we then can do things we want to do. This makes us brave that we can live with our fears and still do the things we like. If you have no fear, you would rush head first into traffic, get into fights you can’t win, and other such things.…

Do you think appeals to fear are the best motivational force, no because a few hours cannot change a life time of broken homes, broken families, alcoholism , drugs and no love. The kids change for a few weeks then there back to drugs, alcohol, and stealing. To start this off, I would like to say that fear is not the best motivational force. I think that the way people act is shows how they were raised and what you have been through, people change when they go through a hard time in the life like divorcing parents, drug headed parents, and even no parents. In the tv show “beyond scared straight” the kid says 2 hours cannot change a lifetime of broken families and drugs.…
