Reflection On Proofreading And Outside Review

Improved Essays
Proofreading and outside review of my writing assignments are essential to producing scholarly writing skills. However, the outside review offers more insight into the areas of concern. Having someone else review my work is how I perfect my writing. Even after relentlessly searching for my own mistakes, I will still miss some. But with the assistance of outside review, I am sure that I am developing an essay that is up to college level writing.
I was extremely pleased to receive a grade of eighty-seven percent (letter grade of B) on my essay about time management. Actually, I was shocked that the grade was not lower. Due to a stressful and time restricted week, I was not confident in my writing for this assignment. But, with the feedback I

During the writing of my “Fahrenheit 451” and Plato’s “Allegory of the Cave” Analysis, I began by first, thinking out my ideas, to put together an essay that would be understandable to myself, the people reviewing my essay, and lastly, my teacher. You are needing a thesis to get your point situated right in front of the readers’ eyes so he or she doesn’t get bewildered while reading. In almost any standardized essay however, your maximum length for a thesis is at most, needing to be one sentence. Even though, you're evidently going to need to write more to get the introduction that is impeccable, but simple.…

Well known for her research and publications on student writing, Nancy Sommers—now Harvard’s Expository Writing Program Director—discusses the student’s revision strategies on her journal College Composition and Communication: a compilation of some of her articles. Throughout this essay, I will be focusing on three articles from Nancy 's journal: Revision Strategies of Student Writers and Experienced Adult Writers (1980) with Laura Saltz as cowriter, Between the Drafts (1992), and the Novice as Expert (2004). Revision Strategies of Student Writers and Experienced Adult Writers (1980) juxtaposes through a case study the revision strategies of first-year college students and experienced writers. Between the Drafts (1992) narrates her personal experience with revision strategies. The Novice as Expert: Writing the freshmen (2004) examines how first-year college students—Sommers believes— should approach writing.…

In "The Maker's Eye: Reviewing your own Manuscript" by Donald M. Murray, managed to capture what happens in any review process. He emphasizes the importance of rereading and then rewriting his work until it is at its peak; Above all, Murray says that the first draft is nothing more than a sketch. I think the purpose of this essay is to inform both students and professional writers about the importance of personal review because no one is more critical than the creator. This ongoing process can be used by writers of all ages and it is critical that aspiring writers understand how long a particular job can last to complete.…

As a student of the College in the Schools program, the class WRIT 1301 has provided me the opportunity to improve my writing and prepare me more effectively for college. During this semester course I worked with peers to improve not only my own writing, but also improved my analysis of peer works of similar structure. My first paper, a narrative titled Confessions of A Living Sin, was arguably the easiest piece to create, while simultaneously being the most difficult to write. Narrative pieces push writers to write of moments that are strong in emotion, and often times leave the writer vulnerable to whom is reading their work. For me, my vulnerability was discussing the ostracism I faced as a queer and transgender person in a conservative…

In this article, Richard Straub, a professor at Florida State University, gives the reader advice on how to improve the feedback procedure when overlooking someone else's paper. Straub writes on how the reader should tackle a proper revision by suggesting where to put comments, how much feedback to include, what tone should you use when providing feedback, and how to format your comments. Straub supports these focus points by using hypothetical situations and a real example of a student paper. Straub constantly provides more information on how the reader can enhance the revision process and thus allow for the reader to become a better writer. Straub was making an argument; instead, he was providing readers with an informative piece.…

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly. At first the tasks given to us on the syllabus seemed daunting, almost insurmountable within the five-week period of the program; it seemed even more inconceivable with the class being only twice a week. However, with the guidance and instruction given to me by the professor and peers I was able to strengthen my work as a student.…

To become skilled at proofreading, an unskilled writer needs plenty of practice. Some suggest students take the time to proofread their writing repeatedly looking for a specific error within the writing. Impressive as this idea is, most students only read through their writing a few times. As students become skilled writers less errors will be made when writing and proofreading will consume less time. When students learn to ask themselves, questions regarding sentence structure and proper spelling as they write, they are more likely to write sentences correctly the first time.…

I learned proofreading is a harder than I though when I have no idea what the main question to be answered is. Proofreading a fellow students paper in a class where everyone is writing about the same thing is much easier. The classmates paper I read was missing the abstract, which brings the paper together as a whole. It was a challenge to provide feedback, as I did not want know what sub topic the writer was trying to convey.…
