The concept that was most informative and will assist me with becoming a more effective counselor includes the study on consultation. To know that intervention methods can be discussed with other professionals will help me ensure that I am applying my best knowledge and efforts. Also, to know that consultation can be utilized as a problem solving technique to enhance the counseling process for the client can most likely increase the overall outcomes of the process.
Concepts learned about my own professional identity
I learned that my professional identity is one that includes advocacy as part of my long held belief in social justice. As a counselor in training, I believe advocacy work will be a natural inclusion into my professional identity and it will take the form of working with affinity groups and community organizations. A goal that I have identified is to continue working with underrepresented students in colleges; and, I hope to advocate for resources that assist this population with issues related to socio-economic challenges.

The first goal is to better understand the various education, prevention and intervention approaches used by mental health counselors. The second goal is to understand the various mental health delivery systems mental health counselors work within and the various roles and functions they have. I still feel as if I know very little, but this course provided a good foundation around that has formed my basic understanding of these two topics.
