ESSAY LOGIC POST SEMINAR
By, Ankur Verma

Through my self-reflection of my performance after the presentations, I concluded with these self-judgments.
Most successful aspect of my presentation:
• Eye contact and rapport
• Pronunciation of diction
• Speed and precision
Eye contact and rapport was quite successful. My eyes were not reading off the board and maintained my shoulders towards the audience. This posture of body language shows confidence which then also leads to less boredom by the listeners. Pronunciation of the words and terms was good. The pace of my slides and explanation flowed really well.
Areas of improvement:
• Clarity of Articulation
• Volume and tone
There were some areas like the introduction to the essay that

It had the most amount of incorrect answers. There was a confusion of where the thesis is allowed to be in. The thesis does not have to be in the first paragraph, and many students thought that it was a must that it was located in the first paragraph. This was questions 3, 4, and 5. All three focused and tested their knowledge on the reflection part of the essay and its importance. The class understood that a reflection was used to show connections to the thesis and support the argument. These were the easiest and most successful questions. Through these results we concluded that we needed a bit more emphasis on the structure of the essay however teaching the importance of supporting arguments with anecdotes was done very well. Also the general rhetorical devices that are used in a Reflective essay was …show more content…
We were also really good in giving examples relating with the essay topics. Giving them ideas on some arguments, thesis, introduction, etc. c. What was seminar not effective in teaching clearly?
We were not very good at explain the Why’s of the essay. For example not being able to explain why the introduction contains an anecdote and not a general description of the thesis.

d. Identify a strategy you could have or should have used to reinforce learning goals in your workshop or seminar?
Originally we were supposed to print the Guy Lafleur essay with annotations for each group, however the formatting was not printing accurately and was making everything confusing. This would’ve helped greatly because when the leader of the group was having trouble explaining the structure, the essay would be available to show from with helpful annotations. Next time we shall make sure that an example of an essay is there with annotations to further aid the other students that are learning.

Chapter 28 in The Norton Introduction to Literature talks about the elements of an essay. An essay is a short written assignment that develops and supports and idea that the essay is written about. Each essay has a reason for being written. Essays about arguments are meant to convince someone of their view point, while an essay about analysis is supposed to breakdown and explain something to the reader. Essays should include four things: a thesis, structure, evidence, and tone.…

Every student learns different ways to analyze and write literature based off what their teachers have imposed on them. In the passage, “From Silence to Words: Writing as Struggle” by Min-Zhan Lu the author informs the reader about her childhood growing up in China during the revolution. She expresses the multitude of problems that come up while she tries to balance learning English at home and Chinese in the classroom. Growing up with these two different lives, the author dignifies that learning two different methods of interpreting literature left her with conflicting perspectives. At school it was frowned upon to speak English, but at home her parents had the opposite attitude and prioritized the learning of English.…

For most of my papers I had a pretty good understanding of what my purpose needed to be for each of them. I would have to say that I struggled more with the reading response essay more than the others because I realized that I wasn’t quite understanding what the assignment was for that paper. I liked that the essays were more personal so it made it easier to know who my audience was and what I wanted my purpose to be. I was happy with my first essay because I really tried to make the stories and memories come to life. Assignment 1 was easy also because it was something that many people experienced and went through.…

Before English 1157, I wanted to cry at the thought of writing an essay. I had always considered myself to be a horrible writer and I just had to accept the fact that I would never be good at it. Instead of being taught how I could improve my essays in high school, the teachers were only worried about the 5-paragraph essay format. With that being said, Dr. Rutledge mentioned how he hated that format and would give us an F if we used it.…

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly. At first the tasks given to us on the syllabus seemed daunting, almost insurmountable within the five-week period of the program; it seemed even more inconceivable with the class being only twice a week. However, with the guidance and instruction given to me by the professor and peers I was able to strengthen my work as a student.…

In two essays following my entrance essay, thesis statements became my biggest issue. I received a ninety on my entrance essay, so naturally I assumed that any future essay would only get better. This was not the case for me at all because instead of improvement, I regressed. The only way to correct my problem was to find the issue and figure out a resolution. Over the course of the semester, I have become aware that I still need to learn to write complete, specific, and fully developed thesis statements.…

English 1101 is a course aimed to prepare students for their future writing courses and have the necessary skills for writing college level work. Coming into this course I was hopeful that it would improve my general writing skills since throughout my secondary schooling it was acceptable but not exceptional. My current faults are hindering the comprehensiveness of my writings because readers have to sift through the damage to understand the argument and focus of the topic. While I am able to come up with content my inability to logically put it into a written form is something I intended to improve. After this course I hope to have revamped my former weaknesses so I can be a more clear and cohesive writer for the future…
