University of Maryland College What My Chief Said That Made Me Reflect On My Powerlifting Career There’s a moment in every person’s life that you can contribute your success to whether positive or negative. I experienced a turning point in my life while I was a young sailor in the United States Navy. As an Armed Forces member you are expected to hold yourself to the highest fitness standards. It was just another day in the gym and I was getting ready to load the couple hundreds pounds on my back for squats. After my chief walked away I wondered why he wasn’t as motivated. Why was he in the gym if he didn’t want to improve himself? People come to the gym to push themselves and be better than they were yesterday. That’s why I love putting all that weight on my back. Why was he there if he didn’t want to improve himself? But here almost 8 years later it has shape the lifter I am today and even in my mindset in …show more content…

There’s not a day that goes by when I lace up my Chuck Taylors and throw on my ear buds that I don’t think about all the reasons I lift. Some cross my mind before others, but my daughter Harmen is always first. I truly hope that one day my daughter can be inspired by me whether its my work ethic or my commitment to be better no matter what people say. I use to think it was just lifting but its bigger than that, it’s a metaphor for
