Personal Speech Assignment Analysis

Compared to the personal speech assignment, I felt the informative speech, in general, is a more challenging assignment. Since it basically combines a research paper and a speech, it was very time-consuming to finish all the requirement, especially it was in the midterm period. But after all, I found a way to balance the time to finish this assignment and gave a effective speech to the class. And I found myself gradually gain experience and confidence in the speech class. Based on the previous speech experience and recommendation from the professor and classmates, this time I used more strategies from the 4-steps methods. I started my first rehearsal on the day before our outline was due. Because I really want to make sure the speech won’t …show more content…
Because, it was essentially the second time I spoke to the same group of audience, I did not feel too nervous. I think I gained experiences from my personal speech, and absorbed knowledge from others’ speeches. So I came up and started to give speech. And I found my attention grabber was useful, when people heard this speech is something about “Baruch and CUNY students”, they inevitably started to pay more attention to me. I think I went through it very smooth and fluent in the first part, in particular, I did not use some unnecessary transition words such as “it’s like” and “kind of”. However, in the middle of the speech, I suddenly noticed that I did not use enough eye contacts as I did for the first speech. I think probably it was because my eye contacts were not too natural, so that I had to use eye contacts very intentionally, which means if I pay a lot attention on other parts of speech, such as, gesture and time management, then I will forget the eye contact part. Then, in the second half of the speech, I started to use more eye contacts to correct my mistake. And I think I used more gestures than the last time, since I practiced a lot during my rehearsal. And this time, I actually got more reflections from the audience, because I the topic is more relevant and interesting to

While actions may speak louder than words, it doesn’t mean that they are more powerful when it comes to initiating change and connection. Words are used to express many feelings and bold messages; they can call people to action, bring them to tears, and even drive their adrenaline to act upon them. While words may only be a vibration of vocal chords, they ring out in a harmonious way that compels others to listen. Many historical people, such as Martin Luther King and John F. Kennedy gave speeches to bring hope to their audience, while other figures such as Lori Arviso Alvord wrote about diversity and acceptance. All these voices had power in their words through confidence and passion.…

President Dwight D. Eisenhower wrote this speech after the outbreak of white mobsters in Little Rock, AK. In 1954 the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Brown in the Brown vs Board of Education case, unanimously deciding that segregated schools were “Inherently unequal” and laws that segregated schools were unconstitutional. But, before I go into depth on the speech, let me explain a little bit more on why it was needed. In 1957 the Little Rock Board of Education implemented the first chapter in their integration of schools that was required by the Federal government.…

Rhetorical Speech Reflection Rhetorical techniques within my speech were subtle yet still managed to enhance the message I was trying to convey; that all firearms should be banned in the United States. I used a combination of rhetorical techniques including; anaphora, hypophora, a mild chiasmus, alliteration, and sententia. Halfway through my speech, I used anaphora when I was describing the different reasons people have for owning guns. This particular method was helpful because I wanted to portray the reasons as ridiculous and repetitive, which paired well with anaphora, since it added to the redundancy with its own repeating sentence beginnings.…

Firstly I wasn’t very happy with how much I relied on reading off my cards during the speech. After watching the speech it seemed as if over half of my speech was directly read from my notes and I would prefer to have more of the speech memorized. The second thing I could have improved on was my facial expression. My facial expression in the speech appeared to be bland and non-changing. I would like to have a more passionate facial expression that varies throughout the speech according to the point I am trying to present.…

To be honest I was never a good public speaker there are times I avoid public speaking there are certain fears I had such as tongue tied, forgetting my lines, the awkward silence when I try to make a joke or point and by being myself blurting out words like "stuff" or "shit" unconsciously. I know it's so unprofessional but it happened quite a few times. After speaking in public I kinda dwell on what I said something that bothered me or that was unsaid.…

I did well at presenting my speech, eye contact was ok but could give it more, and knew my information. I could increase my eye contact and maybe volunteering myself to go sooner so I could get it done right away. During my speech something unexpected happened, my friend Selena had volunteered to help me play my video and was supposed to go to my power point and show a few pictures I had about my presentation. But I noticed that after my video, I wanted her to go to my power point but instead she just let me present I played the last part of my video for my conclusion and that was it. From my S.H.I.E.L.D. speech, it was very different because it took me longer to do my outline and wasn't ready because I had gotten sick before I had to give my speech.…

In reflection to my second speech in public speaking, I believe it turned out better this time than the last. When I got up in front of the class, I was a little shaken up. You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

The interview speech experience definitely taught me a lot more than I had expected. The interview portion of this project was just as much of a learning experience as the speech. I gained I better understanding of the verbal and non-verbal skills I mastered, changes I would make, and the experiences of other people. Verbal skills are something that I feel I have not completely mastered yet. However, there are some I noticed a great improvement in since the first speech.…
