Reflection On Ped 101-Four By Bashir Abdul

Improved Essays
I, Bashir Abdul Jamil, request a grade appeal on a class that I took during fall semester 2016. The class was PED 101-04 and was taught by instructor Christiann Rogers. The initial reason that I have requested the grade appeal was because instructor Rogers failed to provide me my exam by stating that she doesn’t keep the papers once the new semester begins(will provide emails for this), therefore I proceed with the grade appeal. I went through the proper procedures and steps insuring that I’ve done everything that I could and the instructor stated multiple times in multiple emails that she doesn’t have the exam. The whole process takes a long time and it is a stressful process. On the day that I was supposed to get the response back from the …show more content…
I had perfectly fine log that was given 38/40 for no reason. Upon comment, she didn’t recall why. I don’t agree with the way the grading was being done in the class. There is no rubric showing how many points were being taken off for getting something wrong (I also attached a rubric from another class which shows how many points are being taken off). For the paper I have things such as class section marked, I want to know how many points were being taken off. There needs to be a proper rubric that states how many points being taken off for not including somethings. The instructor believes that the exercise was over 1 hour long, I need to know how many points she had taken off on based on that belief. In all my classes, I have a rubric that shows how many points are being taken off if that section is not included in the paper. I was given 57/70. As a instructor, I believe that she should have a rubric, so that way I would of know how many points were being taken off. I have “FA” marked on my folder and given 18 on both FA #1 and FA #2. I wanted to know all of these things during the meeting but due to the unorganized meeting time and the pressure of finishing the meeting fast because the teacher had a class coming up. I wasn’t given any answers to my concerns that I had. I believe that all of these things should be taken into the

Dawn was very happy with her mid-semester evaluation. She didn’t expect her supervisor at Day One to give her such high regard in all areas of the evaluation, such as a five, meaning, “greatly exceeds the standards”. However, there was one area of the evaluation that she only scored a four, meaning, “exceeds standards”. It was in regards to punctuality. This particular area was “arrives on time; gives ample notice if unable to attend”.…

The article “From Degrading to De-grading” written by Alfie Kohn, is a very persuasive and informative text. By reading his article you could tell Kohn is intelligent, gets straight to the point, and supports his claims with convincing evidence. Kohn knows how to get his point through text and attacks every idea from different angles. He was particularly obvious that he was against the letter and number grading system. Kohn mentioned many reasons why the current grading system is inappropriate for the student’s education, such as: grades don’t tell much about a student’s knowledge, grades reduce the drive to learn, and grades reduce the drive to challenge…

Historical Setting In a 1966 amendment to the Elementary and Secondary Education Act, the federal government began providing financial aid to states that provided education for children with disabilities. The program evolved into the Education of the Handicapped Act (EHA) of 1970. After a couple of lawsuits and an updated Act, the government determined that students with disabilities had the right to public education, and parents had the right to participate in the process (Wright, 2010). Amy Rowley, a first-grader with an auditory impairment, and her family filed suit against her school district in the Federal District Court after the New York Commissioner of Education affirmed the school district’s decision to refuse a sign-language interpreter.…

Ever felt like your rights were being violated? Both Plessy v Ferguson and Brown v Board of Education deal with someone's rights being violated , however they have their own ways of dealing with it. The Seperate Car Act of 1890 declared that all railroad companies in Louisiana provide seperate but equal accommodations for white and non-white passsengers of the train cars. This lead to the Plessy v. Ferguson case because when Plessy was prosecuted he claimed that his 13th and 14h amendment rights were being violated.…

Fourth-grade teacher, Sheri Lederman, was surprised when she received results from her 2013-14 evaluation, which reported that she was not an effective teacher. This status was determined by student test scores for the year, which were actually above average like the year before. Even though many coworkers and administrators had applauded her outstanding teaching, the calculations did not reflect those favorable views. In opposition to this absurdity, Lederman sued New York State Education Commissioner and others in an attempt to clear her name. New York did not give her any other way to appeal, so she went to court (Strauss).…

Upon reading the grading polices for this class I understand the guidelines and expectations as follows: I understand that the instructor, Mr. Fanning does not round grades upward, therefore I will strive to achieve the highest grade possible on my assignments, so that this policy will not hurt my overall grade. I understand that Mr. Fanning, does not create extra credit assignments, that being said, I will not ask Mr. Fanning for extra credit, and I will ensure that there will be no need to ask him, as my grade will be high enough to the point where extra credit is unnecessary. I understand that the due dates for assignments are final, and that work turned in late will not be accepted by Mr. Fanning. Because of this policy I will ensure that I turn in my assignments early, and not wait until the deadline to actually turn the…

Compliance or Empowerment "Zero tolerance" for weapons in schools seems like a reasonable cut and dry policy for schools to enforce to keep their campuses’ safe. The problem with any “zero tolerance” policy is that it leaves no room of extenuating circumstances. This week’s case study is a prime example of where a “zero tolerance” policy might not be the best disciplinary action. School principals are charged with carrying out federal, state, and district policies. In some situations this can even mean upholding the law.…

I remember the first time I wrote an essay that was being graded at the college level. This was in my junior year when I took AP Language and Composition, our first essay was a rhetorical analysis essay from a very old excerpt that used old english and was very hard to read. When I first started reading the passage I started to get nervous because I didn't understand what the text was saying but then I started to annotate and the passage began to make sense. I found many rhetorical strategies that the author used and I then began to outline the essay in my head.…

While reading the Seattle public school hand book it was learned that they encourage a positive learning environment for their students. When it comes to their due process requirements prior to a short-term suspension it was mentioned that the principal and the assistant principal are the ones that make the decision on whether the student should be suspended or not. It all depends on the condition of how the rule was broken. A short term suspension goes into effect as soon the principal and assistant principal approves it. It was mentioned that the short term suspension goes into effect even if the parent or guardian does not appeal the action (Seattle schools, 2011, P.31).…

The problem with this system is now students worry more about the grade they are aiming for instead of actually comprehending the material the professor is trying to feed them. Cahn believes this traditional system is the best way to grade a student, but with the overall performance of the student. Some students are abysmal at taking test, however soak up the information like a sponge. Other students are good at memorizing the information even if they do not know the information given and pass the exam, but after a week cannot tell you what they have learned. There are certain holes in the grading system and inappropriately most teachers look at the grades in exams to collect how much knowledge a student…
