Reflective Essay On Openness

Improved Essays
I got a 50% on the openness section of my personality test. This both surprised and did not surprise me. It surprised me because, as a strong democrat, I like to consider myself to be very open and accepting to people of all religions, races, genders, preferences, etc. After I read more about this section, it turned out I was thinking of openness in a different way. I was not surprised when I read the actual definition of openness this test was using. I do not consider myself to be someone who is particularly interested in art in general. I also do not really use artistic outlets like painting, drawing, poetry, etc. to express myself. I would also say I am not a very creative person and my circle of interests tends to stay very small and limited. …show more content…
I consider to be myself determined but I also think I have a healthy distractibility level. I find that my greatest impulse is buying things such as makeup and clothes. I try my best to not online shop and avoid the mall when I am not in need of something but, sometimes I am just not able to resist the urge. I find that I am able to keep sight of my long term goals as well, which was mentioned in the definition of conscientiousness on the website. I have had my major life plans such as graduating college early, attending grad school in Arizona (specific right?), and becoming a high school guidance counselor since I was very young, a freshman in highschool to be exact. In addition, I think that I am very conscientiousness when it comes to my physical health and well being. I am often able to push past the impulsive need to eat junk food and think about how I feel better when the urge passes. Or, I am able to keep myself on track with my workouts and not avoid them because I know I always feel good about myself after. The third category was extraversion and I received a 46% which was actually higher than I had expected.

With the fore mentioned possible trait combinations, there are sixteen personality types possible. The test concluded that I could be four of the personality types due to the extremely slight percentage difference within two of the traits. The quiz provided me with percentages for each part of the Big Five Model. For openness I received a 69%, conscientiousness was my lowest being 21%, next I received 86% for extraversion, 69% for agreeableness, and finally I received a 54% on neuroticism. I agree with the percentages provided because they give an accurate description of who I am. I scored highest in extraversion. The extraversion dimension divides extreme extroverts to one end and extreme introverts to another end (Burger, 2015,p. 162).…

Joining the New Visions program was one of the wisest decisions I have made. When nurses that I shadow at Unity Hospital express how jealous they are that they didn’t have a program like this when they were in high school, it reminds me to take advantage of this opportunity that not every student receives. I am confident that when I graduate college, I will be able to recollect this program, and how it led me to be successful. I will reminisce about the long hours dedicated to each college-level assignment in determination to receive a grade in the high 90’s, or that moment when I witnessed a five pound baby be born from a cesarean delivery, or even when I stood next to the operating table observing a total knee replacement surgery, while the surgeon and nurses took the time to teach me about what they were doing--an opportunity that not even college nursing students were able to see. Every assignment I completed, conversation I had, and person I met, has transformed me into a more educated and open minded student.…

To keep myself busy, I always bring a sketchbook to school so I make up some new drawings. I like to sketch things like video game ideas, I play video games often and I have an active imagination so I fused the two of them together. My works of art aren’t that well sketched and I never show them off to the public, but it matters most to the artist what he himself thinks of his works. Putting my sociality and art aside, I am considered one of the brightest minds in my school and my family.…
