Reflection On Noticing Simulation

Decent Essays
Immediately after the performance I scored quite high on the LCJR, giving myself a 36/44. I believed that this can be attributed to being the second simulation but on reflection I believe I scored lower. The previous simulation was less related to mine than I had thought and while it was the same patient the main concern was completely different. However, just refreshing on my clinical skills in general did aid me in achieving a higher score than if I had been the nurse in the initial simulation. In “Noticing” I gave myself a 9 as I was unable to collect subjective data or gather information due to the uncooperative sister. I lowered it to an 8 realizing I could have led the discussion differently to get at least some of the information I needed.

As such, I became flustered. I attempted to compose myself, and strategize how I could memorize the information within 2-3 minutes and give a concise report to Dr. Adamson, keeping in mind the possibility of a PACE scenario. I felt confident entering the simulated room after deciding I could feign a competent 10 minute session. While I was reporting the details of the patients chart, I was attempting to decipher what the situation was concerned with (typically being some conflict with the SP). Consequently I was preparing for an aspect of the exercise that did not exist, which may have drawn away from focusing on the actual task at hand, the SBAR.…

I attended the Bertha Strong Stroke Simulation event on March 1, 2016, at the Arizona State University Downtown Phoenix campus held at the Mercado building. I had attended this event in the past thought it would be interesting to compare my experiences. I was surprised to find that my first comparison would be the registration and receipt of materials needed to prepare for the event. It may have been due to familiarity with the process, but the current process seemed more coordinated. The registration process was different; it seems as though the old system had some issues as it has been changed slightly.…

In the V Simulation there is many things I would have done differently. The three main things are referring back to the doctor’s orders, do a proper verbal assessment, and check the patient’s vitals. When I began to do the V simulation I went in having read everything however, there were many steps to be done to assess and to care for the patient and her wound. When I was doing the simulation I tried to remember everything that needed to be done and it caused much disorder in my care for the patient. When I did the verbal assessment my questions to the patient it had no order, if I were to redo the sim this is one of the main things I would try to better.…

It was Daniel Handler (author of A Series of Unfortunate Events) who said “Siblings that say they never fight are most definitely hiding something.” It was three years ago when it all happened. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, a terrible disease which causes a person 's own immune system to destroy the protective shell around a person 's nerves. I mention all this, because it impacts a person 's personality to the point they become easily aggravated and affects their relationships.…

I also did a good job of noticing what my peers missed during their head to toe exam.…

This course has challenged the way I think and deepened my understanding of the problem-solving process, which has enabled me to perceive issues from new perspectives, I once would not have considered. Additionally, it has also allowed me to make explicit and authentic connections between the course content and my…
