Reflection On Neshaminy High School

Improved Essays
It’s difficult to make an impression on a school packed with 3000 students of varying beliefs, ethnicities, personalities, and genders. However, I believe I left my imprint on Neshaminy High School through room G213, where I impacted the lives of 30 of my peers. It all started my junior year when my history teacher, Mr. Greenberg, informed us about a new anti-bullying and suicide prevention club he started. Upon hearing this, I knew I had to get involved as both of these issues are extremely important to me. Problems surrounding suicide and bullying have always been major roadblocks throughout my life as I have an autistic brother who was often bullied in high school and countless of my close friends were suicidal. I knew then that if there was a chance I could help stop this oppression from affecting the lives of more people, I should take it. …show more content…
Over time, the club expanded as numerous of my peers started to join and opened up about their depression, anxiety, broken homes, suicide attempts, etc. Myself as well as the President of the club were able to create a loving, cheerful, and safe environment for every single person who stepped into the room, we comforted, encouraged, and provided the help they needed. In G213, we were able to provide a home to those who felt like they never had one before. Even though I didn’t have a tremendous influence on the lives of 3000 kids who attended my school, I was able to have an influence on the lives of those 30 kids who without my help would be stuck in their never-ending cycle of loneliness and depression. My impact on Neshaminy High School has been and always will be in room

In the Chicago suburbs late 20th and early 21st century, racism and anti-semitism were not major issues. A person would never be scared to walk down the streets, worried a gang like the Falcons would pop out of nowhere and beat them up. However, many of Deerfield’s current students are facing different difficulties as they approach young adulthood, that wouldn't have been possible in Michael’s situation. Bullying, especially the cyber and social types, are a huge challenge for adolescents in our society. One small event can have an impact on the development of a person.…

Over all, bullying is increasing and so is the amount of suicide among teens. Kathy Shaidle’s article “In Defense of Bullying” states that bullying is good on the development of youth to strive for more. That not many adolescence kill themselves due to bullying and anti-bullying actually is just creating more bullies. This outlook on bullying is ignoring that there has been a massive increase in self-harm amongst teenagers, why teens have been resorting to self-harm, how bullying actually affects lives, and how suicide and depression have become more widespread among adolescence. The article by Kathy supports no evidence that there aren’t that many suicides because of bullying and that bullying does not pose a massive problem for the well-being of youth.…

Inspiring others, although sometimes a difficult task, can be a lifetime goal for many people. It requires the ability to persuade and emotionally connect to one’s audience in order to inspire them. Ralph Waldo Emerson defines success as “to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived” (qtd. in Earhart). Waldo believes that success can be found by making someone else’s life better, so we decided to accomplish this by discussing the topic of bullying. Our goal was to inspire several groups of eighth graders to stand up to this issue of bullying.…

The subculture I chose is the FFA which is also known as the future farmer organization. I started in this organization when I was a sophomore in high school. The organization starts in the middle school and goes into high school. My high school isn’t big on FFA, so I had to find out through a mutual friend. When I started in this club I didn’t know what to except so I was shy at first and didn’t volunteer for activates as much as I should have.…

In more serious cases, students feel as if they will never escape from being bullied so they resort to suicide. According to the Suicide Awareness Voices for Education, “Suicide is, among 15 to 24 years old, one of the leading causes of death for youth. Over 16 percent of students seriously consider suicide, 13 per cent create a plan, and 8 per cent have made a serious attempt.” Teens have their whole life ahead of them with the potential to accomplish anything.…

The trip to a camping site in the middle of a Pennsylvania forest- a trip I would never forget- lead me to the discovery of myself and my transition into adulthood. This trip was through the summer camp I have attended for now eleven years; Liberty Lake Day Camp located in Columbus, New Jersey, is my second home. I grew up in this camp, and when I finally reached the age to become a L.I.T, a leader in training, I was eager to undergo the program with my friends I always attended camp with. This trip was a reward to all the hard work we do as L.I.Ts. Little did I know the annual L.I.T trip to the camping site would be life changing.…

Madera High School, Home of the Coyotes is usually known for being “one big family”. At least that 's what most of the community believes, little does the community know it is not always that way. Bullying/harassment is not a huge problem at MHS, but is is there. After reading Jeannette Walls’ Glass Castle, I realize that she and I have a lot in common. From her parents arguing to her being bullied at school to her father dying, she went through a lot of situations that resemble some of the less known and serious problems that I had while I was about the same age. Jeannette had a tough life while growing up. However, even though I had similar issues, I lived and still live a relatively sheltered life. I, like her, simply viewed everything that happened as normal and didn’t realize that it was abnormal until I got into fifth or sixth grade.…

After six years of crippling bullying at my old school, my parents had finally decided to send me to the all-girls Catholic school. Although fourth grade was not as bad as the years prior, it was not much better. Even before the age of ten, I had my first encounter with depression and what I later realized to be social anxiety. Even though I was no longer a victim, I was — for lack of a better word — numb. While I met a few people at Bay View, I did not really have friends.…

I sat at the table, surrounded by people, and yet still alone. I looked up from my lunch, and met the sneer of the boy across from me with a smile. No, I was not eating dog vomit, but thank you for asking. I wasn’t sure how the food had any sort of resemblance to my face, but everyone else seems to agree. Turning away, I continued to eat, alone.…

Our high school has a reputation of being academic driven, being the top school in our district our students are often under a lot of pressure to do well. They derived a mindset that focused on always receiving a high grade and not enjoying high school for what it is. This toxic mentality can only become detrimental to a student’s psychological health, causing breakdowns and unwanted stress. To alleviate this I joined the Associated Student Body for my high school, I wanted to break school culture and have my peers flourish in a better environment which demonstrates students should be top priority, not just their test scores. While apart of ASB I learned how to work under pressure, meet deadlines and handle criticism.…

As these organizations have done their part to bring awareness and put an end to bullying, more students have reported bullying. The National Center for Education Statistics has reported that 36% of bully cases have been reported. I propose that students may continue to be bold and in addition that they show kindness.…
