Reflection On My Writing

Since starting composition, I feel as though my writing has improved although I would say it has improved dramatically. I believe that my writing skills have improved such as Dr. Beam has brought me to realize I need to think critically while writing the essays I composed in this class. While in composition I with Dr. Beam, our class was thought that I believe this class even though it does not pertain to my future career in the medical field, but knowing how to compose a well written paper is mandatory for preparing for a successful career. While in composition I our class was challenged be being faced with broad topics and fast assignments that forced you to think critically in order to meet deadlines. When I included all my revisions and essays and documented research paper I realized that my writing was not composed as well as it should have been. In my portfolio I included my first assignments in the class as well of the graded and unrevised copies handed back to me from Dr. Beam. I don’t feel as though my portfolio could better represent my progress as a writer. This portfolio shows all my mistakes and my flaws as a writer because not everyone can write a paper the first time and it be perfect. (One more …show more content…
The short essays and drafts show how I compose and put my own personal thoughts into my writing, and because as a class we did a few short essays I was able to develop more of a sequence of my writing process. From the beginning my short essays were very stretched out, and as long as I met the length requirements I felt as though I was ok. Now I know having a thought process like that will not help you succeed in composition, and I have learned to really try to paint a picture with words in my short essays now. This portfolio shows all my mistakes and my flaws as a writer because not everyone can write a paper the first time and it be perfect. Lamott’s writing makes more sense to me now than when it was assigned, we may have terrible first or even second or third drafts and may never get it perfect but, everybody has a shitty first draft. Even in my case I have had two shitty drafts and that was even after revisions but the moral to her story is to keep trying and it’s ok not to be a perfect writer because there is never a perfect

In my Student Led Conference Portfolio, I have entered six pieces that demonstrate my best work. The six elements consist of the Banned Book Quotation Chart, Taking Responsibility DEJ’s, The Hobbit Figure of Speech Chart, The Hobbit LRA’s, The House on Mango Street LRA’s, and finally the Fahrenheit 451 LRA’s. Out of all six elaborate pieces of work, my two strongest pieces are The House on Mango Street LRA’s and the Fahrenheit 451 LRA’s, which are placed in the reading section of my fourth quarter portfolio along with the other four reading responses. I feel that The House on Mango Street LRA’s demonstrate my best work because I put my best possible effort into each LRA that we were assigned to complete.…

Writing has always been one of my weakest skills. I never understood the basics of grammar, such as punctuation, verbs, or compound sentences. However, I learned to improve by challenging myself with the essays I am including in my writing portfolio. They have taught me to use my time more wisely in order to develop effective papers. Furthermore, they helped me better myself every day by working hard and seeing a different side of writing papers.…

In my poetry portfolio i have a variety of different kinds and pieces of writing. The first piece of writing in my portfolio is the explication that I wrote on the poem “Dirge in Woods” by George Meredith. The purpose of my explication was to explain how the speaker used his or her contemplative tone to get his points across to humanity. The next piece of work in my portfolio is the critique that I wrote on Maggie Fitzmaurice’s explication. She wrote her explication on the poem “The Tide Rises The Tide Falls” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.…

Final Portfolio Cover Letter I have always enjoyed writing so I feel like classes such as these help me more than others. Before I finish college I hope to take some sort of creative writing class as I feel as I haven’t given that opportunity much in recent years amidst constant essays on topic that I do not care about. As a writer I believe my biggest strength is that when I start writing I can keep writing almost until I have run out of things to write about or am interrupted for some reason. I also feel as though I’m very good at writing about things I am passionate about and if I care about a topic you will be able to clearly tell when reading what I wrote.…

Weekly writing portfolio I chose these three pieces to demonstrate different genres. The three different pieces I wrote were poetry, an essay and a story. I am not very proud of these pieces, but like I said, I wanted to show different genres. Weekly writing, to me, was more of a chore than an enjoyed activity.…

I’ve experienced many hardships when dealing with writing assignments, but the worst would have to be my Senior Portfolio. After starting the assignment, I learned very quickly that the assignment was going to be the easy compared to gathering all the information needed about myself. I was required to create multiple different essays that consisted of my post-high school plan and a reflective essay. It seemed easy to write essays on myself, but until I was required to write it all down, I never realized how many experiences contribute into making me who I am today. Even though I find it as the most challenging writing assignment, I also see it as the best learning experience to show who I am and how I plan my future.…

Introduction I arranged my portfolio essays in order of worst to best, or phrased in an another way, least developed or important to the most important. It was very difficult to decide where each piece should be placed. However, I felt that by using this rationale, I could better express what I feel I have learned this semester and how I have grown as a student and spiritual person. The first piece I included is my first reflection paper.…

I chose these essays because they were among the best that I wrote this semester. From these three articles, I have realized that they are both self-motivating and informative. Essentially, the essays are about people who are interested in finding out something new or developing new ideas about things. I wrote the essays from my personal experiences and views. The first two essays describe the experiences I had when writing a one page paper of a seventeen-page report and the experience that I had at Panama beach.…

To be completely honest I have mixed feelings about writing and I don’t really have any memorable experiences that made me feel this way, it is just the experiences that I have had with the subject while trying to apply it. I struggle with what to write down mostly and creativity in general and I don’t really excel at any part of it. If I were to say I “excel” at anything it would be revising my work and adding to it. At the end of the semester I hope that I have relearned some key writing elements that lack of practice has caused me to lose.…

During high school, I have learned and improve my writing each year. I was able to apply everything I learn in my writing, in each assignment I was able to notice a growth not only in my writing but also the way I elaborate my ideas. Throughout high school I was able to write different types of assignments that show my improvement and progress in my writing. When I started high school, I did not have a lot of knowledge about how to improve my writing. One of the writing assignments I had to make during freshman year was a creative essay.…

I am grateful for Writing 120: Effective Writing for giving me knowledge of grammar mistakes to avoid using in future papers, writing skills to implement in my work, and techniques for bettering an academic presentation. I was taught common grammatical errors for the first time in my academic career, such as dangling modifiers and faulty predication. These are mistakes I often make in my writing, which made it very illuminating to learn that there are a plethora of things I still have to learn. The three essays we wrote throughout this course were very helpful in allowing me to diversify my abilities as a writer. Writing a memoir caused me to have to dig deep and analyze an aspect of my life that I never thought twice about.…
