Reflection On My Rough Draft

Decent Essays
A very vivid memory I have is writing my advocacy paper, during junior year of high school. I spent countless hours working on it. My rough draft wasn't very strong , so I had put a lot of extra work into it. My topic was how the high school start time should be pushed to a later time because of lack of sleep by high schoolers. It was a very intruiging topic because I always felt I didn't get much sleep as I should, throughout high school. In my rough draft, I had many flows in my sentences, grammar sentances, and many mistakes. But, I signfacantly improved on my final draft and scored a 90%. I was extremely satisfied, it boosted my confidence as a writer tremedously.

My introduction paragraph was not up to the senior level writing. My writing simply didn’t make a clear path that allowed me to carry my ideas throughout the whole paper. The flow of each sentence was choppy and that made it difficult for anyone reading this paper get into the essay; therefore, I need to start including transitional words, phrase, or sentence so the reader and I can easily read my essay faster and with ease. Another thing that I would change is the thesis that I made.…

After reviewing the rough draft presented to me, I have uncovered many areas need to be improved upon. In order to clearly identify the audience, the author ought to state whom the essay identifies with. One such example is: In today’s digital world letter writing has been lost on our teenagers and although their parents grew up in a world of pen and paper letter writing today’s fast pace has left them in the dust. This rough draft does not have a distinct purpose.…

Throughout my educational career standardized testing has been a major part in determining whether or not you can proceed to the next grade or whether you have to take the class again. A Lot of kids that were my age when I had to take the STAAR test usually dreaded having to take a standardized test like the STAAR English II exam. I was no different, I was one of those kids who just wanted to get this test done with and move one. For a while this philosophy of mine worked, however that all would change when I ended up failing the English II STAAR test during my sophomore year of high school. Thus leading to a change in how I would view standardized testing and how my writing composition skills would eventually improve and affect my life.…

I really enjoyed some of the writing technique essays that we read in class. I usually spend several hours doing just my rough draft. For some reason, I had never considered just doing word throw up on my paper to help develop my ideas. The first draft shouldn’t be the final. My first draft was terrible, because I just wrote whatever came to my mind often not in complete sentences.…

As I walked past the TV, the tiny green creature in the screen suddenly caught my vision. His name was Mike Wazowski, a student in the Monster University. For the next one and a half hour, I watched Wazowski struggled to achieve his dream of becoming a scarer. During the process, he demonstrated courage, intelligence, and, most importantly, perseverance. As I watched him continuously practiced his scaring skills, I felt connected with this tiny green monster.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

After having Miss Kelley as my English teacher both freshman and sophomore year, I was rather nervous having a new teacher my junior year. I had become accustomed to Miss Kelley’s grading style and writing style. It would be fair to say that my writing style had transformed into the way it was due to her influence. My worries had soon dissipated when I realized that Mrs. Wecht’s writing style, although different than that of Miss Kelley’s, was not a terribly hard transition. I would like to think that overall I am a good writer.…

Throughout the course of the semester, my ability as a writer has increased at a slight level. The semester began on a rough patch with my initial submission of assignment one, but that was quickly resolved in my revisions. Since that point, my grades have been relatively similar. I would accredit this improvement to the feedback I received on the first assignment, although some of my faults could be seen in the next assignment as well. Since that point, however, my writing has been relatively consistent.…

Last year, I was stuck on the myth of perfect first drafts. When I was assigned a writing assignment, I would go straight to writing; no planning or actual thinking. And as soon as I would finish my paper, I would turn it in. I was so confident that my paper was perfect, but when I received my paper back, it was not the grade I had expected; I was very upset considering I had devoted so much time into that paper.…
