My Mentor Reflection Essay

Throughout this year I have had the amazing opportunity to be able to learn many things from my mentors and their employees. They have taught me professional ways of acting at the workplace such as dressing correctly and behaving appropriately for any situation that arises. I believe that just as much as my mentors have helped me I have helped my mentors be able to see different situations from a different perspective or helping my mentor decide if giving a class a test or homework is appropriate for that day. Now that I am coming upon the end of my senior year I couldn’t be any happier that I took the work based learning class because it has helped me gain real work experience and skills that can be applied to all areas of my life. Since I have internship with Mr. Kreilein fourth period I sit at his desk and I always sit in his black chair, but when Monica comes during fifth period she wants to sit in the black chair also so we have worked it out to where we take turns each day. My favorite part of my internship experience so far has been being able to watch Mr. Kreilein’s students learn and grow throughout the semester. There is a moment when a student finally gets something that is being taught to them and it is neat to watch their face light up with confidence in themselves. A goal that I would like to attain by the end of my internship would be to be more involved with the students. I would like to be able to help them on homework since all of the classes that Mr. Kreilein teaches I have already taken in the past. I would also like to be able to grade some quizzes or homework …show more content…
Kreilein was trying to teach them. Since I had taken the same class last year I was able to help this student understand the formulas and questions and now they are ahead of the rest of the class. They just need a little extra help that Mr. Kreilein couldn’t provide because he had other students to think about as well. During my internship I have learned many valuable skills that I would have originally not learned with my class work at school. I have learned how that being able to be patient and not get frustrated when someone isn’t understanding you. This is because if you get frustrated it doesn’t help and it doesn’t help the person you are trying to teach something to. Then you both end up frustrated with nothing accomplished. I wish that I was able to be able to grade some of Mr. Kreilein’s papers. I always thought grading papers would be fun and I could know which students need a little extra help. I have contributed to my internship by helping students, making copies, stapling papers, and organizing papers. These all help Mr. Kreilein because it allows him more time to focus on his lesson plans or his students. He is spending time walking down the hallway to make copies or stapling

My junior year in high school, I became a student mentor in our campus’s peer counseling program. This was an incredibly rewarding experience as I had the opportunity to help freshman students assimilate into our high school dynamic. As a peer mentor, I assisted students with personal problems and mediated issues with teachers in order to maximize their learning experience. I also acted as a role model for my mentees by talking frequently about AP and Honors courses and how to be successful in such programs. I put effort into learning about each individual's interests and goals so that I could expose them to clubs and academic courses that they may appreciate such as the Biomedical Academy or our school’s robotics team.…

While I come from an agriculturally-focused family, my interests as a young boy were divided between aviation and computers. At the age of 13, I began to focus more on my digital hobbies after a neighbor offered to assist me in learning the art of programming. During the next few years, he mentored me in software development using primarily C# with the .NET Framework. In that time, I created a collection of small personal applications and games as I experimented with code and concepts. At age 17, I became interested in interacting with the physical world through the digital one with the use of microcontrollers.…

On Wednesday, October 7 at 3p.m., I met with my advisor; Summer Balcer to discuss my future college career plans. We discussed which courses would be best for me to take next semester and then put them into my planner on my account. In addition to the winter mini session, I also am planning on taking Math 1314 during the first summer session and then possibly Government 2306 for the second summer session. My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader.
