An effective leader is someone that is able to take charge of the school and lead it into the right direction. This module speaks of many qualities of being an effective leader. However the quality that stood out the most to me is being assertive. As an inspiring leader it is imperative for an administrator to be assertive. Being an assertive principal entails being positive and having a straightforward approach to leadership. For example, Rose Ylimaki (2007) writes about a principal that is hired at a challenging school and the principal takes charge by using her assertive “determination to make a difference .“ (Ylimaki, 2007, p.13) I have watched my administrators take charge when implementing new policies within the school.
