Reflection On Mitty Open House

Improved Essays
The day I attended the Mitty Open house, I listened to two students speak about their experiences at school. I was impressed by how well they articulated themselves, and expressed their opinions. They inspired me to believe that attending Archbishop Mitty will provide me with the skills that I need to reach my academic goals. My brief interaction with the teachers during shadowing and open house provided me with an insight into the close student teacher collaboration. To me such interactions are important because, it fosters an open environment for students to excel. I was very excited to learn about the unique internship program that Mitty offers to its students, because it a great opportunity to experience career options. Mitty’s academic

My journey at Chick-fil-A began the of fall of last year, soon after I turned sixteen. I wanted to work at Fairfield Coffee as a barista, but due to my age, I could not even receive an application. Jobs at Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts seemed to be my next best option; but, Starbucks’ supervisor and I were in a serious game of phone tag and Dunkin Donuts never responded to any of my calls.…

Governor’s School Last summer, I attended governor's school west where three hundred and twenty-five bright and open-minded students from all across North Carolina gathered for five and a half weeks in a college campus setting. To me, this was a big milestone in life that changed me for the better. We left our cozy lives of families and friends to start with a clean slate with strangers we’ve never seen in our lives. At first, we thought of it as a sacrifice of our summer to glamorize our college application, but throughout the program we experienced things that exceeded beyond our expectations.…

Upon my arrival at Commonwealth Honors Academy a mere twelve days ago I was ignorant to the fact that I was going to learn so much in my time spent here, but now I look back and realize that I have gained so much knowledge and I have acquired more details to add to what I knew before arrival. Overall I have learned that most things in life require constant attention and effort to make them truly work and that anyone you come in contact with and create an influence with will then, in turn, make a larger circle of influence that can quickly become bigger than you can ever be. The universal themes that have had the largest impact on me are the themes of Happiness, Friendship, and Sovereignty of Education. It was Aristotle who defined happiness…

My first memory at North Carolina Governor’s School West is of crying next to my parents on a bench under a giant tree. It was move-in day for the five-and-a-half-week session, and I was already sure that they would be the worst weeks of my life. I was terrified; I knew no one except two students from my high school, who were rising juniors and to whom I had never spoken before. After that stressful first day, I fell asleep unsure of how I could make it on my own in a place filled with such talented, intelligent, and unfamiliar people. A week later, I knew that Governor’s School would be one of the most treasured experiences of my entire life.…

Being a student at Queen’s University taught me that the opportunities we seek out teach us about our character and more importantly, about our passions in life; they help us to define our goals and will lead us to be successful. I have been fortunate to gain valuable experience as a Queen’s student, orphanage volunteer, and drop in center volunteer. My experiences shaped my understanding of teaching and learning processes as I learned the valuable qualities that are exhibited by successful educators that establish supportive learning environments for their students. While working in Romanian orphanages this past summer, I learned how each child presents their own challenges as they learn, and communicate differently. In a short time with a great deal of patience and dedication I learned enough of the language as I led games, bible studies, and helped children with conflict resolution.…

When I first discovered the academic prowess and the opportunities that were offered at Montclair State University, I found myself having a feeling that this was the school for me. This gut feeling became amplified once I had done research on the Feliciano School of Business and the Montclair State Law School. For years I had envisioned myself being at an institution that values and initiates an educational and empowering environment as this would fit in well with my core academic strengths and ideals and for these reasons I am gladly seeking admission to Montclair State University. Throughout my academic career I have gained valuable insight into what my academic strengths and interests have developed into.…

I have been a Xavier University Smooth Transition (ST) mentor for 3 years since the years of 2014-2016. Smooth Transition is a first-year student summer pre-orientation and year-long peer mentoring program that seeks to support underrepresented domestic and help them transition smoothly to college. Most smooth Transition students are often African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans. Being a smooth transition requires selflessness as the program unpaid and requires one to dedicate their time to helping another student, as most of the time, the smooth mentors can be the only one that the student can depend on. As a mentor, I have guided first-year students to make good decisions in their college years to succeed in the…

When I interviewed with Mount Holyoke College, the Associate Director of the Frances Perkins Scholar program, Nichole Reynolds, shared with me, “Attending this school can be a transformative experience if you allow it to be.” The words that she spoke were the guiding force behind the ways in which I approached my junior year. The 2016-2017 school year has been the most transformative year of my academic life thus far. Indeed, I stepped out of my cocoon and forced myself to stretch; no matter how uncomfortable or the amount of fear that I felt, I pushed towards new experiences that helped to construct the person I was becoming. First, after much consideration, I officially declared my self-design major in Black Geographies with the support of my academic advising team.…

We are proud of John for so many reasons, but probably his most impressive achievements are his academic accomplishments and abilities. John consistently challenges himself through honors and AP studies. He started taking AP classes as a sophomore and continued on this accelerated path in subsequent years opting for three AP level courses in his senior year. I asked John why he was putting so much pressure on himself in his senior year and he responded “Life is full of easy sometimes you need to challenge yourself and take some risks, that’s what I’m doing.” We have witnessed John develop and grow not solely in academics at Providence but in character, intellectual integrity, and spirituality.…

I'm currently pursuing a Master of Art in Theology at Whitworth University. Whitworth's mission is to equip its diverse student by providing an education of mind and heart. This mission statement attracted me to Whitworth compared to the other schools I got accepted at. An education of mind seeks to help a student pursue a rigorous study that will enable them create solutions to make the world a better place, while an education of the heart seeks to kindle a compassion to heal, inspire, protect and provide for the weak, marginalized, and the poor amongst us and globally. After completing my first semester and looking forward to the next two years at Whitworth, I have concluded that I made the right choice to study there, and the education…

Going into higher education is not a trivial task, I have a long and arduous journey ahead of me. My success thus far has been due, almost entirely, to keeping school and my full-time student status as my number one priority. Most, if not all, of the social activities I host or participate in revolve around the Computer Science community at MiraCosta. I am really proud to say that the club I helped establish last year has built up and consolidated the Computer Science students on campus into a thriving community. Furthermore, I love doing the work I am able to on campus.…
