A valuable lesson I learned is that good writing has more to do with the way the material is presented than the material itself. This lesson caused me to realize that I must think about a target audience, biases, and stakeholders among others. I was encouraged to change the way I think which aided me in the writing process. Being introduced to metacognitive writing helped me to take a step back from the somewhat egocentric mind frame I carry. The reading, This Is …show more content…

As an incoming freshman in August of 2015 taking Rhetoric 105, I not only learned how to take apart papers, summarize, paraphrase, analyze and construct passages, but overall to be a great thinker. There are many ways that a person can tell you that works to become a better thinker, but it starts within you. While writing papers this fall semester, I learned that my writing became better when I a. understood what was being asked of me via the criteria, b. allowed myself to make mistakes in order to understand what I was and wasn 't doing correctly, c. I started to question myself, not in a way of was the work too hard, but in the sense of what the assignment and the thesis I am creating is asking. At this stage, you have to be completely real…

You want the reader to share your knowledge and your attitude toward that knowledge,” (Flower 184). In other words, as a writer, it is never my responsibility to merely spew out information that looks good and impresses a teacher, it is instead my privilege to have the opportunity to share my worldview, and in the meantime teach others how I think and feel. This in and of itself transforms writing from a drab assignment into a purposeful, and possibly powerful,…

My leadership strengths are the ability to motivate others into action, be calm in a crisis and diverse communication. For example, I realize not everyone communicates the same and the ability to recognize and adjust my style of communication to fit others is essential, particularly in a business setting. The same can be said about writing styles because it is a form of communication and everyone develops a different style. I do love to write on topics that interest me; however, academic writing is most challenging due to topics may not be interesting, maintaining a scholarly tone, and learning to write in APA Style which is like another language.…

What I want to look at is writing my reflection, which is incredible because as I am writing this reflection I’m thinking about how I have progressed as a writer. More deeply, I’m thinking about my thinking which is referred to as metacognition. Writing this reflection and past reflections have pushed me to think of my writing in a way that I had never done before. Using a recent example, looking at SLO A helped realize the rhetorical situation and audience. This allowed me to keep in mind, things I should or shouldn't include within my writing.…

The writings have made me have a good understanding of discourse community in which the readings also help with that. The infographic writing assignment gives me a better understanding of discourse community and evolves my theory of writing because it makes me believe that writing has a purpose. In the infographic it shows me discourse community doing a writing for someone else which evolves my theory of writing as it was previously that writing is useless just something to do in class. When doing my review that shows me genre writing of a particular genre and that is also is showing me writing for other people, writing for a purpose. It was fun to do the review assignment and I felt that it had a reason to do it to have something for anybody to read to decide if they should go see the movie or not.…

I began by listening to knowledge based lectures online and making notes alongside the recommended reading given by my lecturers or the module guide.…
