Reflection On Messiah College

Improved Essays
As a student who is passionate about learning and expanding my mind to investigate the truths of our world without compromising the truths of my faith, I believe that Messiah College can offer me this balance. I desire an education which will develop my mind in a community that will also nourish my soul, and I see this potential in Messiah’s approach to enriching the whole individual. I view my education as something alive and active, which extends beyond the classroom, and I am eager for opportunities to serve and to lend myself to a need. I feel inspired that Messiah maintains an essential focus on service and integrates hands-on learning and serving as part of a necessary element in a student’s four year journey with the school. Throughout one week, campers would engage in worship and activities in the evening and go out to serve in the local community to places in need during the day. In the week leading up to the beginning of camp, I experienced some personal challenges, and my family and I felt spiritually agitated and unsettled. Unbeknownst to me, the camp had only ever received campers who were within a church youth group. I was not a member of a church nor was I coming with a youth group, but I did not anticipate that this would cause any disturbance or be culturally jarring. When I arrived, however, I was treated with a hollow distrust and experienced a tangible discomfort from the staff members because I did not come from an established church. I felt like an outsider among fellow believers; at one point I was called the “unaffiliated”. As the week went on, the LORD allowed me to discover how estranged we can become as believers to one another and the discomfort we feel outside of conventional Christian practices; He began a healing process in me of a sin that I had struggled with for years; He prompted me to be baptize in the following months; and He instilled in me a deeper heart for service. I was blessed to serve two groups of children during this time and I will never forget how these children touched my heart. While my reception to this camp was not flawless, I am grateful for the opportunity

Camp Bird for Lutherans is, and has been my second home since I was twelve years old. In fifth grade, one of my mom’s friends, Mrs. Jenny Krauklis, invited me to attend Camp Bird. That summer my family drove me four hours north, and left me at camp - my only friend being Mrs. Krauklis. I spent the week making new friends, painting arts and crafts, eating way too much of the acclaimed camp food, and strengthening my faith in Christ. My parents picked me up at the end of the week, and I spent the next year raving about camp.…

Keystone Fellowship Youth Group has been a place where I have made friends with other believers, been influenced by mentors, and strengthened my spirit with other Christians empowering me to rise above challenges at school and in my life. I have spent intensive time with this group of friends at events like summer camp and winter retreat in order to develop friendships with other committed Christians who will keep me accountable in contrast to less spiritually aware personalities at a secular college-prep school. Christian peers and fellowship with believers have provided me with balance, and grounded me with spiritual strength by teaching me how to apply the Word of God in every day challenges. Now I am able to be a support and strength…

The Lord used on of his elders not only to extract gifts that I never realized had laid dormant with in me, but to also utilize these gifts for edification of the church. After about a year of training and service within this ministry, I was graciously moved in order to learn to utilize these gifts on my own in a way that would not only ultimately glorify God, but would continue to edify the church and reach out to an untapped…

Calvary Commission, the seminary that I stayed at, is located a few miles out of town on a land that seems to never end. I could walk miles and still find myself to be on Calvary Commission’s property. The first day I was there, my group and I went on a little hike up to the prayer chapel, which sat on the top of a hill, surrounded by trees, and a bonfire pit stood a few feet away. This was my group’s first real exposure to how great the people at Calvary Commission are.…
