Reflection On Learning Through Reflection

Learning Through Reflection During this semester, I finished three main essays. They are the summary and response, rhetorical analysis and argumentative essays. In general, I think I have improved in many aspects within my professor’s help. In high school, students were only required to write 120 words for an essay, but in college, we are normally required to write at least a thousand words for an essay. At first, I had no idea how to just finish it, and just reach the word count, but now, I am not troubled by such feelings since I have mastered the effective use of sentence length, organization, transition words, and some other skills. In this way, I feel my writing ability has reached a new level. Even so, I still have much to do like …show more content…
At the beginning, I had almost no idea about this one, because I had never seen it or heard of it before. It seemed a completely new challenge in front of me, which forced me to study a series of new concepts like rhetorical devices. I think they are quite helpful because they can not only be used in rhetorical analysis, but also in many other aspects, for instance, oral presentations. Since I put much effort and energy in revising it over and over again, my word choice and grammar became better meanwhile. Consequently, I was satisfied with my final draft. In this way, I felt that I was becoming a stronger writer with improvement of writing ability and growing …show more content…
Related to the personality I took before, it said that I had a low level of extraversion. Indeed, I think I am an introvert person. I enjoyed time alone and thinking alone. Moreover, I insisted on listening to news every day, which also helped to develop my critical thinking. As for organization, I always followed my teacher’s instruction, so it was not too difficult to make a clear outline. Referring to weaknesses, I think my weaknesses are applying complex sentence structure and vocabulary. Since I used simple clauses too often, it was hard to make progress by just writing as much as possible. Therefore, I intended to read more long sentences, and analyze their structure deeply. Also, I tried to translate long sentences. As for vocabulary, I have made progress although there was still a long way to go. According to the personality test, it said I was willing to deal with tough times and had a strong resolve. Exactly, I strongly believe I will be better through working on my

What did I have that they didn’t? I had practice writing and received more control of how to collect my ideas and organize them into a paper that allowed me to acquire worthy grades. To emphasize, I am able to collect my ideas faster due to the consistency of writing every week. This behavior has led to me to being able to manage my time more efficiently on ideas such as punctuation and even creating longer sentences that will improve my papers. Even though English 101 is a beginner writing class, it taught me how to apply those writing skills outside of the classroom walls, while helping me more than any of my other high school English classes.…

The strategies I used specifically for this course became more and more intentional as the weeks went on. With reading material, I made sure it was always quiet and my phone was turned on silent and flipped over so my mind could push through for the hour and really focus on what the conclusion of the material was. There were a couple of times I had been lazy and the Chapter Quizzes were getting harder to do because I was skimming and rushing through the information I needed to retain. With the Discussions, I have always enjoyed those because they were organized and arranged in a way my brain could function and finish the assignment with a better grasp of that Week that I was Learning about. I definitely finished the Discussions first before any other homework I had.…

The class is filled with handy tips on improving the essays, and if we listen to them carefully we will obtain considerable results. Revising is a vital part of every writer, even if you are a professional writer, to detect mistakes made while writing. Likewise, connectors like transitions are used to make the text flows easily to help readers’ comprehension. Besides, meditate and think about our rhetorical situation is important to deliver a work that has a clear position and purpose while considering the demands of the audience. If this course was not an obligatory class, I would recommend everyone to take it.…

I do not plagiarize but I was shocked to find out that a paper that you wrote earlier is considered plagiarism if you use it again. One of the greatest accomplishments for me was learning how to push through and write one amazing essay even if I get stuck. It is a tremendous skill to have and one that I use almost constantly! In a point I made earlier, I said I learned MLA but the hard way. Let’s go with the assumption that sometimes my brain goes “Hey you know how you need me?…

Upon entering WRC the first day of classes, I had the utmost confidence. I believed my writing was near perfection, due to my pricy and challenging high school education. I still believe that I learned a lot from high school, but this class required a different type of writing that I had yet to experienced. WRC 1013 demanded academically researched papers, which I had done before, but in the past it had been strictly research. In these papers I had to convince my audience of something and why it is important which was incredibly frustrating and hard for me to do.…

As quickly as this quarter has gone by, there has been plenty of things I've learned. My favorite, being metacognition. Although, metacognition may have had absolutely nothing with this course, it seemed to be a very important tool for processing essays. Not only that, the process of defining the word “metacognition”, always managed to stir-up a good educated confabulation. Most importantly, this course has given a lot of confidence in my writing process.…

This college course has definitely helped me improve my overall writing. My first paper in English Composition opened my eyes to how inadequately I had written before. Before I took this course, I had no idea what a thesis statement was or that it even existed. When I did learn about thesis statements, I struggled to create one and differentiate between the thesis statement and attention grabber. To me, each one seemed to be the exact same but with different meanings.…

Learning different modes of writing and putting them into practice will allow me to be able to approach different subjects with an appropriate style. Although I had learned to use only academically credible sources before, I had become too lax and this class put me back on the right track of being aware. I have only done papers in APA format for the past two years, so this class was a nice refresher on MLA format. I think it’s important to be fluent in both; while in college you never know if different teachers will require a different format than others. Beyond improving my writing ability, this class achieved its critical thinking development goal as well.…

It has taught me to be patient with my writing and that procrastination will only affect my grade in a poor manner. I’ve learned that research is everything because it extends your paper so the reader can get a better understanding. I’ve achieved great things in English and I’m happy I decided to take this class because I wouldn’t have received everything that I know now. Seeking help, asking questions, doing an infinite amount of research, and using my time wisely is what I’ve learned and…

I have learned how to insert my own creativity into my writing and fully express my thoughts in unique ways. I still sometimes go crazy with comma insertion, but I really believe I have eased up a little on that whole issue. One of the biggest things that has changed about my writing process is my word count. I am no longer worried about reaching a certain amount of words; I just write all my thoughts and most of the time I find myself way over the minimum. I also feel a lot more confident to proofread another’s paper.…
