Field Training Reflection

Tuesday, Today started of a bit slow. I arrived at my practicum, and my field instructor was running a little late. The church is constantly under tight security and since I am only going to be here for ten weeks there no need for me to receive a key. So I waited for my supervisor in my car in the parking lot in the back of the church. He told me to arrive at eight o look, but he always at least five minutes late. After about six minutes of waiting, he arrived in his golden 2008 Chevy Malibu. As soon as he parked, he immediately got out of the car and said good morning to me. I give him the greeting of the day and then we both walked in the office. It was like I was in high school again, because every person that we passed we greeted. Of course, …show more content…
Nobody came through, though, after about two minutes of waiting we proceeded to his office. We sat down and spoke about my career and where I want to ebin the next five yeas. I didn’t want to reveal my plan to him though, because I don’t really car for people reflection about my career paths in life. After the half and hour discussion, we proceed to the conference room for our weekly leadership team meeting. We watch Jhon Maxwell tape regarding leadership. W e were also provided workbook so that we can complete the exercises at the end of the video. The video was manly about focusing on our strengths. John Maxwell believes that we should spend ninety percent of our time as a leader focusing on our strengths and ten percent of our time focusing on our weakness. I disagree with that because if you are only spending ten percent of your time on your weaknesses how do you expect to overcome those weaknesses. After the forty-five minute video we all took turns talking about what we though about the video and what answers we wrote in the …show more content…
Over the last two week I have ben walking into the office not knowing what tsk I was going to be given, so its nice to know what I was up against so I could prepare myself. So far I only have one issue a with my agency they bounce me around to much. Hey will ask me to work on one thing and then before I am even close to finishing that another person will com up and ask me to assist them with something. When I have free time this is something that I am going to bring up to Jeff. When me and Jeff arrived at his office he immediately gave me the card for February. The church ha a lot of data that needs to be logged in the system so we have a lot of catching up to do. Jeff spends most of his day conducting counseling session with some of the members of the church. During my data collection, I had several people ask who I was? Which is a common question for a phone conversation? I told them that I was Jeff Warner’s assistant. They kept asking me question such as how long have I been at the church and where do I sit at during the service. I didn’t want to answer their questions because I don’t actually go to the church and I was afraid that if they heard that it might detracted them from coming to join the church, I mean it makes no sense for me to call them and ask them to join the church when I don’t even go their. I didn’t want to bring this up to my supervisor because I knew he was bust am dim just

Goal #3: Learn how to be more decisive in decision-making situations As a people pleaser, I have difficulty making decisions because I want to make sure everyone’s opinions and ideas are valued. However, this often leads to internal conflict because I take too long to make decisions, out of fear that I am making the wrong decision, hurting other peoples’ feelings or being overly assertive. I find that I seek approval from others in order to validate my opinions in decision-making situations. Being more decisive will help me become a more confident and purpose-driven leader, which will demonstrate to my team members that I can lead them and that they can trust the choices I make. I will know that I have achieved this goal when others recognize my promptness in making decisions.…

A leader, according to John C. Maxwell is someone who “knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way. As I look back on my own life, I see how my leadership skills have grown and how far I need to go to be a successful leader. Determined, driven, and goal- oriented, are just some of my many characteristics as a leader. Passiveness, stress, and worrying are my weakest point in my life. Demonstrating these point can be easily shown in this year’s FBLA community server project and my role as FBLA secretary.…

I have analyzed the definition of leadership and now have a clearer understanding of it. According to, Introduction to Leadership; concepts and practice, by Peter Northouse (2015), leadership can be composed of many variables such as relationship, trait, ability, skill, behavior, and influence process. He also elaborates on how the “leadership of an individual can be used to influence a group to accomplish a common goal”.
