One such element is the way one joins the group. Instead of the traditional baptism at birth or as soon as one is interested in the religion, Jehovah's Witnesses are baptized and become full members of the congregation only after associating for some time and proving that they truly want to spend their lives serving Jehovah God.

As I grew up, I always thought that one day I would follow in the footsteps of my parents, older friends, and relatives who had all been baptized in their own time. I learned many of the Bible's basic truths and, for the most part, believed what I was being taught. I associated closely with

At first, I was excited for them and couldn't wait to congratulate them on the big news. But as I had more and more time to think about this news, I started to think about when I should be baptized. Did I want to be a Jehovah's Witness for the rest of my life? Or was I only interested because I knew it would make my friends and family happy? When I really sat down and contemplated the issue, I realized that there was absolutely nothing stopping me from dedicating my life to Jehovah God. I felt that I had a solid grip on the fundamental teachings of the Bible and what it would mean to spend the rest of my life as a Jehovah's Witness. I knew how seriously this decision was meant to be taken, but from that time forward, I also knew that in my heart I believed what I was learning and I wanted to reaffirm my faith in this important

In my research, I was directed to a blog and article about this teacher in Florida and her Jehovah's Witness student. The incident took place on September 11, 2013, and it was over the Pledge of Allegiance. A fourth-grade Jehovah's Witness boy was standing for the pledge, but his hand was not on his heart. In front of the class, his teacher, Anne Daigle-McDonald, come up to the boy, and forcefully put his on his heart. Being a teacher, Daigle-McDonald was using the boy "disobedience" as a lesson.…

In closing, despite dreading going that first day and being a full on anxious ball, I am so pleased I pushed myself to go. Because the stereotypes I learned against this church have been broken away, I see and have found the absolute truth in gospel and true church, and I have become really blessed. To this day I am a new Mormon, and I am continually learning and I am in love with it all. I say this in Jesus' name,…

Baptism The congregation’s praise rang throughout the brightly illuminated tabernacle but my voice, chewed up and digested by the cacophony, sang in stark contrast to the dark tumultuousness of my soul. In a crowd of hundreds I stood ideologically alone, a sinner in devotee's clothing. My sin mirrored the Original, and was therefore unforgivable. The sin that changed my life, that made me who I am, was the sin of asking why. I was born into a Mormon family.…

Unfortunately, I discovered that my church’s organization was running rampant with bigotry. It didn’t come as a shock to me. As I’ve grown, my personal beliefs have taken shape, and I became uncomfortable with some aspects of my church’s organization. My parents raised me Mormon, but they left the church around the time I turned 13. I stayed because at that time, I genuinely believed in the entirety of the religion.…

My life before my conversion consisted mainly of growing up in a Southern Baptist Church. Throughout my life I have heard the gospel countless times, but never accepted it as absolute truth to follow. Instead, my life until college was characterized by performing a lot of religious activity such as youth groups, church camps, and going to church on Sundays. I was in a tireless attempt to live out a religion that proved I was good enough to be declared righteous before God. It was a restless attempt to be whatever everyone else want me to be.…

My spiritual journey of faith has turned me into more of a “mutt” than a “purebred” Christian because of the variety of denominations and international churches that I have experienced so far in my life. For starters, I grew up in a “every Sunday” church family. In fact, I was at church the very next Sunday after being born. My first church was part of the Assemblies of God. However, a few years later my parents divorced and we ended up at a non-denomination church, where I spent the next 20 years.…
