Reflection On Informative Briefing

The informative briefing is the first of the three major communication assignments that will be completed this semester in COMM 107. I personally enjoyed this assignment because it forced me to research an area that I never would have looked at. I learned so much about some of the most notorious serial killers to ever walk on United States soil, which is a part of this countries past no matter how disturbing it may be. The assignment also opened my eyes up to how far I still have to go in order to truly become a good public speaker. When it comes to being nervous, I would have to say that public speaking for some reason makes me more nervous than any other thing in life. I did pretty good controlling my nerves for the first four minor assignments, but something about the informative briefing set me off. My hands were shaking and my heart was beating out of my chest throughout the entire presentation. I know that in order for me to become a good public speaker, I am going to have to figure out a way to get a better handle on my emotions and nerves. I was nervous throughout the whole presentation, but I still believe I did some things well. I feel as though my biggest accomplishment is …show more content…
The presentation will be organized and outlined in a way that allows me to get through the information in about 4 minutes, which should leave me a minute to spare on both sides if any complications were to arise. The presentation will contain no gimmicks or unnecessary information in order to save time and avoid confusion with assistants. The topic will also be on something that I am already familiar with, which hopefully will ease my nerves and anxiety seeing as I will be more comfortable with the material and less likely to forget it. By structuring my persuasive speech in this way, I hope I will be able to conduct a speech that is even better than my informative

The peer I had to analyze for persuasive speech was Ronald Coates. I thought his gave a great speech that really spoke to the majority in the audience. His main idea of his argument was that massed shooting are becoming more prevalent across the United State and we should take some actions to control the events that is happening right now. The topic he chose was interesting attention gathering with providing strong detailed in his preparation. There were couple of areas where the speech could have improved, such as he would have given the listener more details about the solutions and missing out a lot of other things.…

    1. I believe there were some positive aspects of my speech. Firstly, I was not a nervous when speaking in front of the audience. This allowed me to have the speech flow smoother than last time. I was not expecting the audience to be as large as it was this time; but I think the increase of people might have helped easy some of my anxiety.…

I would consider myself moderately anxious about public speaking. I remember the first few communication apprehensions I experienced in my personal and work life. With my personal experience, I was at church when I shared a testimony with the bible study. With my work encounter, I had to conduct status updates for two areas during project implementations and testing phases with a large group. In both situations, my heart pounded loudly right before I spoke and when the words came out of my mouth, I felt like I had to speak quickly like Speedy Gonzalez!…

The informative speech that I select was presented by mathematician Hannah Fry. Her speech was dedicated to exploring how complex social behavior can be analyzed and perhaps predict the site of an upprising or riot. The second TED presentation that I selected was delivered by Van Jones who is the founder of the Ella Baker Center for human rights and of Green for All, in Oakland, California. Their mission is to build an inclusive green economy strong enough to lift people out of poverty. Both speeches were engaging and provided phenomenal insight regarding their topics.…

Effective briefing techniques are important at any level, and with any officials and all the time of working performance. I am not a best speaker, and I know my briefing presentations are far away from a level of an Excellency. I am native Russian and English is my second language, my ability to communicate orally has always attracts more attention and positive interest. I am a foreigner speaker, so I understand it is my own responsibility to do everything possible to insure that the audience understands my message. I am presenting the information in an interesting and intelligent manner so as to increase the effective listening ability of the audience.…

Overall, I received fair feedback. Although I was able to hit most of the skills from each category there were a few that I missed from each. During the actual practice I was very focused on not messing up and hitting the key points. However, once I was finished and recapping over the session I realized both strengths I have developed and challenges I still need to work on. This experience showed me what I have have learned thus far in class and also what I still have to learn.…

The informative speech was one that I actually enjoyed. I was able to inform the class about something I was passionate about, and I learned some stuff that I didn't previously know about. An informative speech is a speech where you are educating an audience on a topic that they may not know much about, while a persuasive speech uses a bias opinion to persuade the audience to change their opinion about a topic. A persuasive speech may also be informative because of the information it contains, but an informative speech will never be persuasive. The reason behind this is in order to persuade the audience to take your side in a matter they may also need to be informed more about the topic before making their decision, making this a persuasive speech. An informative speech will never contain persuasive information (Brewer, G., 2001).…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

I sometimes get nervous about what people are thinking about my speech when I am giving it but if I don’t judge people from the audience then I will have the mindset when I am on stage that people from the audience are not judging me. Lastly, I think that I will be able to get up in front of people and give a speech without getting extremely nervous. I haven’t had much experience with speaking in front of big groups but hopefully by the end of this semester I will be very good at it without having any nervous feelings if someone asked me to give a public…

Guest Speaker Critique The first presentation I watch of Benny Agosto. He is an attorney personal injury trial at law, and very well republished who talked about topic persuasion-the power to persuade toward audiences. The presentation was very well organized and interesting. For instance, some of the keys that he discussed was the definition of argue which is “to make a case for a judgment or opinion” and we seem to argue a lot in our daily life that we don’t even know it.…
