Infographic Research Paper

Infographic Reflection In the block week course MKTG 559, the entire class was told to each choose a digital marketing topic that we thought deserved an infographic. We would research the topic, create an infographic and then share it with others. In this reflection, I will share my experience and journey creating an infographic on influencer marketing.
What sources did you use and why? When it came to creating my infographic, I struggled. Due to my work experience at Critical Mass, I had a high standard for credible, and relevant data. Unfortunately, I also had less resources for this assignment than I would’ve had at Critical Mass. As a result, researching for this infographic took much longer than anticipated. Although infographics are designed to translate data into a more digestible way, Critical Mass had shown me a higher standard. “What is the story you’re trying to tell” is what I was always told at Critical Mass. It’s easy to just find data and slap it onto a PowerPoint or an infographic, but it’s another to tell a story. Therefore, I deliberately selected data from my research to tell the story of how influencer marketing isn’t a black and white topic. Many infographics I saw online only told what influencer marketing was and its benefits. I chose to be different and answer a question that is relevant to marketers and business owners, “Should you use influencer marketing”. Interestingly enough, I didn’t provide a definitive answer in my infographic. I told a story with my data by sharing the different perspectives of influencer marketing, but I left the question unanswered. The reason for this was because every scenario is different. I chose to share information to help other decide: the digital landscape; the benefits; the disconnects; and the disadvantages of influencer marketing. The rest, however, is up to the reader to decide.

The different perspectives on the topic will impact how I’ll use it and who I’ll recommend it to in the future. Furthermore, I learned a lot about creating an infographic. As a Marketing Science Analyst at Critical Mass, I was taught about telling a story with my data, but I rarely considered design elements. The process of researching, creating and sharing this infographic was an excellent way to give me an overview of marketing. Although each department in an agency may work on one section of marketing, they undoubtedly have to considered other departments in their work as

As a person limited with technology experience, I label myself as being a ‘digital immigrant’. I faced the challenge of creating an infographic and I did not understand how to use Piktochart effectively or to create one that is graphic and visually displayed for the ‘digital natives’ who prefer graphics before paper (Prensky,2001). Initially, I created an infographic about Facebook that looked like advertising. I felt frustrated that a simple task of inserting a line proved difficult and that the templates were ‘too short’ , where alternatively, I could just clone or drag the block to enlarge it.…
