Reflection On Hispanic Culture

Decent Essays
My perspective has changed a large amount over this past year. I have gained a new perspective about the Hispanic culture and the language. I learned a lot through the assignments and some of the assessments. The DT challenges and the Culture, Connect and Compare assessment are just a few of how I have gained that new perspective. My favorite thing we did to learn about culture is the Culture, Connect, and Compare assessments because there was a separate part for culture. On the DT challenges translating helped understand the language. Every assingment and assesment helped me gain a lot amount of knowledge on language and culture.

This school year my perspective on language has changed in the learning of this class. At the beginning of the school year, I only knew a few simple words. Since the beginning of this school year my knowledge of language has grown by a lot. I now know a lot about food, activities, seasons, greetings, school, and others. I have learned a lot through the DT challenges each week through the paragraphs and trying to translate it ourselves to learn and go over other vocabulary. Also, the previous Connections and Comparisons logs help with finding cognates

Like I said before the assignments all contain a part of culture, which teaches us when we are not exactly noticing it. An assignment I learned a lot about coulter was when I did the Culture, Connect, and Compare assesment. When you chose a topic it had a specific part for learning about it and it had something to do with the Hispanic culture. For example, in two I learned about food and in the other two I learned about a Latin city and about schools. In the DT challenges I also learned about small parts of the culture of different places. For example, we learned about the climates, people, and schooling systems. I gained a larger view point on Hispanic cultures during the different

Being a student at one of the most prestigious schools in the United States, you are given amazing classes which teach us various topics which eventually bring us back to our major or main topic of our undergraduate. Being a Mexican student, my knowledge is primarily about the struggles and stories from my own country. Coming to this school and meeting other minorities from other countries and taking classes that teach us about those countries as well, my knowledge about other problems and stories that happen to other students, families, and youth throughout the countries makes us realize that we are all the same and not alone when it comes to tragedies and inequalities like the ones many of us encounter in the US already. Attending "El Pais Que Viene” a Non-Profit Event & Book Launch, allowed me to connect the various topic and stories I learned in my Chicano studies class called “Central Americans” where we discussed the important events and inequalities that are happening throughout these central American countries and looking at stories through literature and media. Living in the Untied States as a minority, we tend to not tell our stories from our countries or even identify ourselves from those countries due to the negative image that the US has towards the people who come from these different countries.…

My journey began as soon as I stepped out of the airport. While getting to see how similar the houses were structurally but were all unique from their color, I learned how my Hispanic culture includes being humble about themselves, what they own, and their lives in general. Getting out into the streets and being able to see everyone's shops and restaurants was amazing. After that experience, I learned that my culture relies on the community to work together to support each other. I then met my relatives that I haven't even gotten to meet.…

The group I chose to research was the Hispanic culture. I do not know much about the Hispanic culture nor have had much experience working with this culture. Sometimes it can be hard to work with or surround yourself with people when your cultures are not the same, therefore getting to better know the values and customs of a Hispanic will help me to make sure my clients get the most from me Knowing more about the people that I am dealing with is the best way to ensure a good client to counselor relationship. The Hispanic culture is one of the fastest growing cultural groups in the United States. The U.S. Census data indicates that Hispanics will be the largest minority group by the year 2050 (U.S. Bureau of the Census, 1992).…

To begin, I want to say I find this course insightful. Through the weeks, I have come to accept that everyone has unconscious bias, but also, that it is not something to be ashamed of, if anything, it is something to learn from. I have learned to recognize that I have my own ethnocentrism, that it is okay to feel proud of my own culture in the sense that, maybe there are other ways to do things, but I like my way better because that is the way I am accustomed to.…
