Reflection Paper About Banking

In reflection of my learning experience, I was originally not completely sure if I learnt anything in my short time being involved with Lalor football club and their junior program, but as I began to think about my time and experiences, I soon realised that what I had learnt was actually quite a lot and of a huge value to me. Being involved in this amazing program that the Lalor football club provides I was given an incredible insight into many different facets of learning. This was a very effective mode of learning for me and I felt it was incredibly advantageous having this direct form of contact and observation. As I wrote in my log book on page 7. When reflecting on Freire’s banking concept of education, I soon realised how different the learning that will occur as a result of the junior program will be. The concept of banking, highlights how teachers can act as 'oppressors' when they treat their students as empty vessels that need to be deposited with facts and knowledge. Freire argues that this kind of learning seeks to prevent learners from thinking critically and from owning their own learning trajectory (Freire 1993). The goals of the program provided at Lalor football club is to create a junior program that is safe, inclusive and well managed, the give the best possible learning opportunity for the kids and adults involved.
