Family Literacy Night is a way in which we can help get books in the hands of every child at school and change their lives in a positive way. What I learned from helping with a family literacy night willstay with me forever and has had an impact on me. As an assignment in READ 4015 we were to organize, plan and execute a family literacy night in Spring Hill at Marvin Wright Elementary. It was a very different experience and one I will not forget. I hope that as I reflect on my experience it will help me to also reflect on what kind of teacher I want to be for my students.

Hands on activities are the best!
Everyone worked so well together. I believe we all know that even though we will eventually be looking for a teaching job, we are in essence all in this together. It is really all about the kids and the education they need to succeed. Group work is very different than what I am use to. I am use to working on projects alone and knowing where I stand. I have always been a shy person and have relied on myself for anything I am working on in school. This particular project really brought me out of my comfort zone and showed me it is okay to ask for help.
Marvin Wright's Family Literacy Night was different to say the least. I had never worked on that type of project before and really wasn't sure what to expect. Nerves were definitely a part of the night.
Even with all the nerves it was still a success and showed me a different perspective of being a teacher.
You don't only teach the students but also interact with the parents. Parents are a big part of the children's education and should be involved. Allowing them to be involved in a literacy night was a good thing and something I hope to be a part of in the
