Reflection On Placement

Improved Essays
Before I begin, I would like to clarify that within this first journal entry I will discuss and reflect upon events and experiences from my first day of placement until the present week, in which I have come to the conclusion of my third week. The “focus event” or “theme” for this entry I have entitled: “the first few weeks” and/or “an introduction to placement.” The place or location is Aptus Treatment Centre. Some of the individuals made reference to in this entry include: Tania–Human Resources Manager, Jessica—my designated and/or official supervisor, and the three allocated staff of the “Sensory-Vocational Group,” the adult day-program group I am assigned to support. Furthermore, aside for the clients of “Sensory-Vocational Group” various …show more content…
Do you speak any other languages other than English and, possibly, although I’m not certain, a question along the lines of who helps me at home with activities of daily living, etc.? The surprise comes from, during my placement interview a mere likely three weeks prior, Tania showed no glimpse of being nearly as chatty and/or sociable. I understand that the former was a “professional” interview for a placement opportunity, however, at the conclusion of the interview, I was given an opportunity for questions, and although I do not know how much time she had, I understood and/or would give her the same courtesy had she had questions for me, but she didn’t. With regards to being “caught off guard,” such may have involved the vast number of questions, but I believe more involve the types of questions Tania asked, in that I believe them to be questions one may consider to be personal, some more than others, but regardless. Moreover, comes the idea of where I expected a few “personal” questions aside from to the “how are things …show more content…
Reflecting on this specific moment later that that day, I realize when we stopped here and Jessica introduced me to the “team lead,” explaining how this is a person whom I could report to and/or speak if I had any questions or when she is not around, that I hadn’t truthfully heard all the details of what was mentioned. Had I heard all that was mentioned, and was my usual self I would have clarified in advance, why am I proceeding into this classroom, being handed this binder, in addition to, does this conclude my tour. At the ending of the placement day is when I finally realized that yes my tour had come to an end, and that I was given the “client information binder” and brought into this room as this is the group that I have been assigned to work

As an occupational therapy graduate student, I had already decided, working with seniors was not for me. On my first day, I slowly pulled into the parking lot. “Well here I am,” I thought as I got out of the car, “it’s only six weeks, I can do this.”…

I have been very blessed this semester to have a very stimulating and informational placement, however changes that occurred at my placement organization has undeniably impacted my learning. Hadiya’s absence has impacted my ability to learn in my placement, however the impact has been largely positive. Due to Hadiya leaving Harmony House, I was able to gain another supervisor, Caitlin, and she acts as the housing advocate at Harmony House.…

These therapy sessions provided the needed feedback from the instructor and my peers to gain a better understanding my theoretical orientations and areas in which I can work on to become a more competent therapist. The coursework that was provided through this course also assisted in having a better knowledge base for my future practice based on empirically…
