Subway Observation

Throughout observing my workplace (Subway) there are many aspects that could be covered about culture, but the major three categories I am going to be covering are ethnicity, ritual, and communication even though many aspects were covered in class related to my workplace, but these three categories were most prominent to my shift.
First and foremost, fast food industry is all about communication and the way one presents themselves to a customer. Together with this I thought another category of race/ethnicity and ritual were important as well.
Living in Canada there is allot of multiculturalism, we deal with allot of different people that come from different ethnicities, age, and culture. But at my workplace we are mostly all Punjabi with a few Asian people working. In fact the owner himself is Punjabi. I HAVE …show more content…
Our owner is not super strict about uniforms, unless it’s inspection time. Everyone has different subway shirts (old style and new) and we wear black pants with subway hat, and closed toed shoes. WHY OBERSVATING I QEUSTIONED MYSELF WHY DO WE WEAR UNIFORMS OTHER THAN CAUSE WE ARE TOLD TO AND WHY IS OWNER ONLY STICT DURING INSPECCTION TIME. IT MADE ME COME TO CONSLUSION THAT, we usually may not think uniforms as a sign of communication but I did. I thought it was a way to show respect to not just the owner but to costumer to illustrate that we are all one team there to help and, to help make employees have sense of belonging in a “workplace community or society”. Also the reason what I thought of why my owner didn’t care as much about what we wear other than black pants and closed toed shoes, is because in my eyes he’s costumers as number one priority he feels that respect is already given to him and at long as employees satisfy their costumers he doesn’t care about
