Last week I attend at the meeting APTA CSM 2016, Anaheim, CA. I presented a poster as a student of University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. My poster was about the effectiveness of cervical MT on TMD patients.
This was my first conference experience in the USA. And I have to say; I’m impressed to see so many PT’s, colleagues from all around the USA and international PT’s. There were more than 11.000 PT’s, PTA’s, and students. This year, it was a record number of attendances. At the CSM meeting, there were very interesting educational sessions, courses, and poster presentations, which I really enjoy to listen and read. Also, to see new development machines and innovation on our topic was interesting. I should also point out, the weather

Friday and Wednesday’s gallery walk was a huge learning experience. I learned so much about topics that I didn’t know anything about like Kent State, The Space Race and the Gulf of Tonkin Incident. When I was presenting I loved seeing how interested people were in my topic as was I. People had so many questions and it was great to be able to know so much and answer them. My topic was the John F. Kennedy assassination.…

I was always aware of how court rooms worked and how judges listened to defenders and made decisions shortly after, therefore, I had assumed that a board of supervisors meeting worked the same way. Although, when I attended the Prince Edward County Board of Supervisors, it surprised me how they both were. The meeting started out with a Christian prayer from a reverend and then proceeded with the pledge of allegiance. It shocked me because normally everyone always keeps church separate from the courts and I had considered the board of supervisors a court, so I did not expect something that open. When Chairman Jones started the board meeting by, asking the board members if they had any conflicts of interest, it stuck out the most to show their…

Community AA meeting My experience at a Community Alcohol Anonymous meeting took place at Macedonia Church in Williamston, NC on a Thursday night. I learned a lot of things just by attending this meeting such as all alcoholics are not the same stereotypical group that a majority of people put them under. I really do not know how I categorize alcoholics before becoming a nurse, but I have learned that they come in all shapes and sizes, different walks of life, employed or unemployed, and various income levels. One thing I noted during this meeting is that they seem to be very religious, constantly talking about God and/or a higher power to help them throughout their journey.…

I attended a meeting with the Latino Medical student Association on the topic of DACA and how it can affect medical school hopefuls. My friend who is a member of the organization informed me about the meeting and with what was going on in the news regarding the future of DACA and its recipients I thought it would be important to go. l learned that they are very big on community and connecting their members with different opportunities as well as fostering a comfortable environment that allows their members to freely speak about important topics. I thoroughly enjoyed hearing about the experiences of students from different backgrounds that were all Dreamers. I'd be lying if I said I didn't get emotional hearing about the many times medical…

Walking into the TOC that early morning on July 25, I was nervous and didn’t know what to expect. As I reached forward to introduce myself to Mr. Jeff Keith, the gentleman that gave me this opportunity, an air of relief swept over me. Mr. Keith is a physical therapist assistant at the Huntsville TOC who has been practicing for twenty three years with a business degree to help him in being the assistant manager of the TOC in Huntsville. I was so excited to begin my full day of learning and it all started with my fervent inquiries about his journey as a PTA, including the good and the bad. Mr. Keith was kind enough to allow me into his personal opinions.…

Often, women walk down the beauty aisle of a department and grocery stores and see all types of merchandise for their hair, but not many know what the products are right for them. They see products that promise to rejuvenate dry, damaged hair; volumize limp, flat hair; straighten curly hair, and regenerate thinning hair. With my hair being a kinky curl, when I was younger, I would ask my mother if we could buy relaxers and apply them at home. She would give me the same answer every time, “This should only be performed by a professional if you do not want to ruin your hair.”…

According to Boyles (2004), “teachers talk with students to monitor their progress as well as to set goals and help them solve problems” (p.75). Teachers should conduct writing conferences in order to assess and evaluate the writing progress of their students. The purpose of writing conferences is finding the strengths and weaknesses of their writing to improve and develop the skills the student already has. Depending on the students writing the teacher facilitates interventions to improve the students writing skills. Teachers should frequently plan writing conferences to check-in on their students and the progress they have made.…

This key experience allowed me to examine my various meetings with the clients that I had selected for this experience. I found that there are a couple of areas addressed in the NASW Code of Ethics that were highlighted in my experience. Integrity and competence are areas that these meetings led me to examine more. I had to examine the mission, values and ethical principals and standards as well. I explored my meetings with these individuals and had to decide when the relationship needed to come to an end.…

I was fortunate enough to attend the 2016 H. W. Sumners Leadership Conference where I would have the opportunity to meet a unique pool of influential individuals. Most of my leadership experiences had come from group projects with students who I were familiar with, and the conference gave me the chance to become a team with strangers from across the United States and Mexico. I was not aware of how much I was actually going to get out of the conference. Through the elective workshops, I learned much more about my leadership style and who I could become as a leader. Through the speakers, I learned about the power of creating a vision and pursuing with unyielding faith.…
