Reflection On Clinical Journal

Clinical Journal: Week Eight Today’s clinical was very busy. I started the morning with observing Lin, while she performed her handover and conducted her initial rounds on her patients. Later that morning, I assisted Halima with caring for her patient then began my research for the medications that I had to administer. In the afternoon, I administered medication. Lastly, I observed Autumn clean and suction a tracheostomy and perform a tube feeding. This afternoon, I was proud of myself after I administered medication. The first time I administered a subcutaneous shot, I was extremely nervous and hesitant due to the lack of fat on the patient. I was so afraid that the needle was going to go through his skin and end up in me! The second medication administration was better. I administered heparin without an issue. Yes! Due to my second injection going so well, I went into my third one with confidence, and it also went well. I know administering injections easily is a small accomplishment, but it made me happy to know that I am making an improvement. I think the biggest problem for me was the fear that I was hurting the patient. …show more content…
Lin had five patients and was very busy. At one point, she needed assistance and asked another student nurse. Her having to ask for assistance from a student nurse that was not assigned to her made me feel awful. I really enjoy helping the nurses on 3C, and I not being there to assist her made me feel as if I was not doing my job or being helpful. During summer clinical, I will ensure that I check in with my nurse often and ask if they need

This week was my first Foley catheter insertion. I was a bit nervous, but most of all I just did not want to hurt the patient since he was already in a lot of pain. Prior to inserting the Foley, I talked to the patient and his wife and asked what happened, if he was allergic to anything, and if there was anything he needed. My professor helped me through the procedure. The most important part of this procedure was to keep sterility.…

Ending the prayer, a feeling filled my body as if we would never see each other in the flesh again so race behind her before she made it to the top of the stairs to give her a hug. She replied, “I love you too.” After hours of fighting, I return to my room to wait on my roommate for 7 months to talk about the events of the day. An hour passed and no word. Shortly, there was a knock on the door requesting medical assistance because of my role as a first responder on the Medic Emergency Team.…

The reflection is presented based on Gibb 's Reflective Cycle (Gibbs, 1988). Choosing to study medicine is not a decision I have taken lightly. It is not a career I have wanted to do since a particularly young age, but a life changing event prompted my choice. I thought very long and hard before deciding to apply for medical school. The same is true for deciding to apply for the Physician Assistant program. My story began at the age of 10 years, when I woke up at 3:00 am at my mother's scream because my father suddenly became unable to speak and move.…
