I am very sorry to hear that your mother had a bad experience when she first came into California. When I first came to California, I already know how to speak English since English is our second language in my country. At the beginning, I find it hard to understand what people say so I made sure to study the language more and just speak English every single day. Today, I can say I am much better when it comes to speaking and understanding English and that helped me in my studies and nursing career. I worked in a hospital where patient can use a phone to have interpreter available for them. We also have trained Spanish speaking health care provider that can be at bedside and ready to interpret.
