Bullying is my greatest concern in schools today, it is one of the main causes why teens suffer from eating disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, and other illnesses. This is why I chose to focus on bullying for my social injustice. I wanted figure out how we can effectively decline the rates of bullying in schools, as I researched I found that peer mediation would be the best option to help this cause. I feel very accomplished and happy that I impacted my community for the better and I plan to keep persussing this path of teaching those who do not know what peer mediation is. From researching techniques to stop bullying, the most successful way I saw was peer mediation. Peer mediation is where students, with a conflict, meet in a safe place to work out the problems they have together with the help of a trained student mediator. In this meeting they confront the feelings they have towards each other and resolve the problem they shared. As a group we decided for our active component to be a presentation and teach the 5th graders at our campus about this technique, and hopefully diminish bullying in our school. We came up with this idea because we thought if we teached it at a young age, then maybe they would grow up knowing the process and able to resolve future problems in later years. We specifically chose 5th grade because we all agreed on that 5th grade is a time where bullying situations becomes more real and aggressive. What I contributed to this project was the research and created a timeline of the goals we wanted to complete. The biggest goal we wanted to fulfill was being able to present to the 5th graders and able to victoriously teach them how to peer mediate. We have a date scheduled in April to present and we're very excited to see the results and share our knowledge about this social

Newman defines social movement as a “continuous, large-scale, organized collective action motivated by the desire to enact, stop, or reverse change in some area of society.” Change has always been common in the United States and the immense number of past and present movements are proof of our growth as a nation. People are constantly using political and social platforms to their advantage to speak out and create change in the U.S. today. The social movement I chose to study is the anti-bullying movement, I’ve examined this movement and considered how it may or may not bring a positive change to the United States. I was never physically or verbally bullied as a child. I was shy and soft spoken; therefore, I never did anything to attract attention to myself. Instead of harassment, I had more difficulty dealing with isolation. Though this is not same type of bullying we had seen in the video, it did make me depressed and abandoned. I typically felt this while attending McKinley High School.…

According to www.makebeatsnotbeatdowns.org “1 in 7 Students in Grades K-12 is either a bully or a victim of bullying” (1). A probable cause for this type of bullying is that the bully has a high standing of power within a small group, so whatever he/she says is taken in as believable. This also allows the bully to show off a dominant attitude. This normally causes the victim to experience academic problems, sleep issues, and violent behavior. One way to solve indirect bullying is to allow the victim to see that it is okay to say something.…

I have chosen to volunteer with my Catholic Church to fulfill my hours for volunteer work this semester. After thinking long and hard about what I could do besides teach the children about their religion and help them develop their own opinions, I agreed that I should use this platform for something just as good to be spread. Together, with the church, we set up classes to teach the children about the struggles of bullying and find ways to connect their religion to the issue at hand. After throwing a couple ideas around, I decided that teaching the students about bullying could be the best idea for the children and for the community at large. Teaching about bullying would be better especially compared to a fundraiser that would not be…
