Balance Reflection

Improved Essays
My reactions to the finding a balance class was pretty minimal. I have always been extremely well at managing my time overall. I have a tendency of putting what’s important first so I am very good at getting all of my school work done and making sure that all of my responsibilities are completed before engaging in personal activities. My biggest issue is that I have to make sure that I’m done with everything before I will allow myself to relax and that can be a big problem in the more stressful weeks because I find myself caught up in my school work so I don’t have time to set aside for myself to relax. After discussing the productive times verses the non productive times in class today with our schedules, I have the goal of making sure …show more content…
For example, I spent over two hours making my bulletin board for the month of October and I was really proud of it but I was even more proud of it and of myself when Pam stopped me in the hallway and told me that she really liked it too. Getting recognition from someone higher up and knowing that they are appreciating the work that I did was really reassuring and made me feel really good. Another example would be that I put a lot of effort into making myself uncomfortable so that my residents could feel comfortable coming to me with any kind of issues that they might be having. It was a big weight off my shoulders when hat first resident finally came to me with her problems and I was able to recognize that everything that I had done to make her comfortable with me had paid off …show more content…
I have a relatively small staff so we are on duty very often. Even though that has been the most time consuming part of my job, it has been one of the most helpful too because I am able to sit in the office and really be consumed in my school work. I use my time on duty carefully and typically use it as designated study time. That’s something that I highly recommend other people do because it’s a time where you can ensure that you don’t mess around because you can opt to not bring the things down to the office that would normally be in your room and distract

One accomplishment that took a great deal of effort was lacrosse. Right from the start of freshman year, I knew that I wanted to become a good lacrosse player, enough to make an impact on the game. I did numerous clinics and leagues for two years straight, I worked as hard as I possibly could to become the player I wanted to be. Throughout my training, there were times where I felt like I was never going to be as good as I longed to be, but my family and my coach motivated me to work through because they felt that the hard work would be worth it. Whenever I was feeling like this, I would always turn to them because they reminded me of how hard I worked and how great I would feel once I felt the reward.…

Service, courage, strength, honor, joy, all represented in more than words, in thought and action and practice. Years upon years of continual joy and laughter and struggle. The ecstasy felt at the top of that mountain laughing for all the world to hear, and the compassion built from supporting my sisters who couldn’t quite make the climb. Learning to mentor and lead those younger and more vulnerable. Saving a younger camper’s life as she choked on a seemingly innocent treat.…

When asked the question, “what is your biggest accomplishment in the area of leadership,” the same answer comes to mind every time. It is an easy question for me to answer because of the tremendous impact this experience had on my life. In my junior year of high school, the SkillsUSA advisors repeatedly approached me about the SkillsUSA Pennsylvania Western Region Leadership Conference. I didn’t know what it was until they eventually pulled me and a few top students from my school aside and told us about having a “tryout” to see who would best fit to become an officer at the leadership conference. Each of us presented a prepared speech and an extemporaneous speech.…

I would like to thank you for beautiful novel Airborn, for it has truly inspired me. Intrigued by the quick summary on the back of the book, I took it upon myself to read the book itself. I grew attached to the characters, and I found myself unable to put the book down at times. I loved how I could somehow relate to each character throughout the novel, whether they were small similarities or rather big ones. Each character stood out to me in a unique way that changed the way I think and inspired me to act as they do.…

    Kindred Reflection

The novel, Kindred, exposed me to the un- taught lifestyles of the southern people during slavery. It left me with questions, jaw dropping moments, and surprises, but yet not, of the life styles that were practiced during the 1800s that today we might see in different forms. One event that troubled me the most was reenactment of the slave market. Kevin and Dana were walking away from the Weylin’s home and slave quarters to talk in private when they saw slave children reenacting a slave market. Then Dana said, “Even the games they play are preparing them for their future.”…

    Reframing Reflection

Journal #7: Reframing When I came across the topic of reframing in this week’s readings, I immediately thought of myself, and the way I tend to handle difficult and/or stressful situations. Unfortunately, when something doesn’t go my way, I tend to become irritated and ask myself why I have such bad luck. Recently, however, I have noticed myself reframing issues, even when I had never heard of this as a topic before reading chapter 10. For instance, in the beginning of the school year at USC, I was denied a waiver for the USC health insurance plan, which ended up costing me $600. I was initially pretty angry that I would have to pay this amount, because I did have insurance, just not insurance that qualified to allow me to obtain a waiver.…

Using the 5 dynamics tool, I discovered several working style characteristics about myself that I really had not previously thought about. The application of this new knowledge will improve the way that I work with other people in my education, my career and in my personal life. For example, I learned that if I partner with others whose strength and weakness are different from mine, working together as a whole we will obtain better results than we will if we work separately. Furthermore, I learned that each team member brings different strengths to the project thereby producing a more balanced result. As a result of taking the 5 dynamics assessment, I discovered that I have valuable strengths that are especially beneficial in developing…

The lessons the workshop taught the children that went through it was invaluable. We hope that we as adults show our children learn from us the mistakes of the past and treat people equally. A lot of times unfortunately people have stigmata’s either put on them by society because of how they look or they put them on themselves and people treat them differently. The lessons that this workshop teaches are lessons that everyone should have. You can spend our entire life trying to instill the values in your children that this class does in two days, and I want my children to be kind to people as we all do; I do not want them to ALIENATE someone because they are not the same as them, different ETHNITICIY or part of a MINORITY GROUP.…

The first day of my English Composition One class has resulted in the formation of four different groups of young minds who have all come together to further their knowledge and better their writing skills. My group, affectionately titled Group Two, consists of two high school students and two eager minds who just graduated from high school themselves. Of the four of us, there is only one boy. I am quite happy with the members of my group, and believe that we will all be able to help one another as the semester continues.
