All of the articles I’ve read was extremely engrossing and it helped me understand the term womanism, slaves, and sexuality. There is a lot to cover for the articles, but it really made me think differently. The movies we’ve watched was fascinating because I never knew how African cultures were like and how their style in clothing were important to them back then. After watching the films, I’ve got an idea of African history was about and learned in depth of African women. The three themes/concepts that are important to me is slavery, sexuality, and skin color. These concepts are relevant to me is because slavery back then was a huge problem. While reading the articles and watching films such as “Roots”, “Sankofa”, and “12 years a slave” that relates to slavery makes me feel uneasy. I know that this was back in the day, but in reality there are still slavery going around in our society today. How the way people treat Africans are really disrespectful and unfair just because they are a different human being. What Africans have to go through is more painful than anything else in this world.
